While almost all users will understand, it may help a few to know a more explict bit of information.

goape = pirate selected becomes enraged
goforit = if captive selected tries to escape

For the goape and goforit cheats to work, an individual person/unit must be "selected" as the cheat is typed in.

nope. you press ctrl and shift AND type in the cheat code, there is no screen. keep ctrl-shift pressed all the time you type in the cheat code, then finally release the ctrl and shift key, then you get whatever the cheat code ( note- not codes. only type one in at a time.) grants.

I'm surprised they haven't been mentioned before in this thread.

I don't know how many got an edition with a paper manual, but most folks seem to have the PDF versions of the manual and the strategy guide included on disk one.

I went looking for the official list of hotkeys and was horrified (appropriate for a pirate game, eh?) to find the notation Note: Hotkey list located on the back cover at the bottom of the Table of Contents for the Manual. Of course, the PDF file doesn't include the "back cover."

There is a saving page in the Strategy Guide. It is labeled Keyboard Shortcuts. It is on page 12 (Acrobat Reader page 7).

A partial list:
Pause/Break             Pause game
Q                               QuickSave
G                               Toggle grid lines
T                                Toggle trees
L                                Bring up the Island Log
M                               Show Strategic Map
Backspace                 Center on subject of current circle window alert

Of course, the whole list is worth looking up if you are as handy with the keyboard as you are with the mouse.

Hire/press gang a few female pirates/captives .. turning them into overseers
pull your eyes wide open

I think the built-in cat jokes weren't funny, but dadgumed this cheat code redeemed them.
