Er...ah...I don't know how to tell you this...but...

STATUES ARE SUPPOSED TO EXERT GOVERNMENT CONTROL!!

The game says so, the manual says so, I say so, several board members also said so before and now...I guess you say so too. Grin

I guess we all can't be wrong eh? Wink

Someone posted a few days back saying it took about 5 statues to equal one guard station. Hunt for the thread and you'll find it.

I was the one who said 5 statues equel one guard station. I just don't remember where I posted it...Anyway, statues will keep rebels from attacking a farm, but if they want to attack something, they'll just go to the farm with the lowest government control.

Sorry you feel that way Jim. My intention was to pay a compliment to you. I was just being amused at your comments after you posted to old threads. I realize now that my poor attempt at comraderie looked very arrogant.

I am the one of the strongest supporters of reading old threads to gain tips. I know that it would be a serious labor to read every post in the forum to gain the knowlege that is there. With that said, some judicious choosing (which you did, by the way) will reveal lots of game insight. Please remember that the longer you stay here the more common it becomes to see the same old requests for the same knowlege. This why a large number of our game experts here rarely come to the on-topic threads any more. Anything can become dull after a while. My efforts are aimed at getting players to read and play a little more so that they can ask more pointed (read interesting here) questions that will bring more of the oldsters out to help the half dozen or so who do the bulk of assistance here.

I won't beg you to reconsider, but, I do offer my appology.

Jim, i wasn't going to write because allegedly you were "leaving" but as i see you're still logged in, i feel i must respond.every message board i've ever been on has the same elements and dynamic.  blair witch, cars, urban legends, west wing, it doesn't matter.  there will always be nice people, mean people, knowitalls, morons, busy people, bored people who are sick of the topic yet they hang out all day every day, etc. etc. etc.  there will always be "oldtimers" and there will always be "newbies."  i mean, is this your first board?  after nine or ten months (sometimes 2 months) some people will be completely sick of answering the most basic questions over and over and over while others (amazingly) will be energetic, cheerful and helpful beyond comprehension.  i would have to ever so humbly suggest you develop a thicker skin.  being picked on for sport and/or out of boredom happens every day on every board.  in fact, at this point i would expect someone to ask me "EVER HEARD OF THE 'SHIFT' KEY???"and if you are actually leaving, i will tell you what i told celine: how can we miss you if you never leave?-g

Thin skin indeed.  There was a problem over at the nightclub...probably what started the whole thing, when he supposedly implied that Chairman Robbo's site was subpar because Robbo was an Australian.  Instead of apologizing and changing the post, he argued the point.  Then he got angry, claiming that we are hostile to newbies.  Hey, we were all newbies once.  I was a newbie twice...  It all worked out just fine.  I have seen few people who were quicker to conclude that they had been insulted.
Joe, if he's made up his mind in such a way, then by all means, let him.  He wanted to go out with a bang...and so he did.  AND he gets to hang around and see the aftermath.
That was Jim.  Quick to anger, quick to take offense, quick to "leave".
Here is your Pass GO Free card.
Enjoy your funeral Jim.  We don't do repeat performances.

It would have been possible to explain the concept of government control as measured by the ground overlay displayed by its button under the Info/Gen subgroup.

The displayed information is that the red areas are subject to Rebel Attacks and uprisings ; the advice is to build Guard Stations to reduce the red.

Even after we got the spread sheet for the bldg.dat file, what is measured by the overlay is not intuitive. The building auras (radiated effects) which are probably involved are:
  • Crime Presence - representative of population concentrations (?)
  • Rebel Presence - no building uses it
  • Police Presence
  • Military Presence
Undeveloped area is a bright green. That seems to indicate that the mere presence of people reduces "government control" while only a select building or buildings exert government control.

Police Presence is radiated by eight buildings, including the Guard Station.
Military Presence is radiated by nine buildings, including the Guard Station and the Statue.

The Guard Station radiates level 10 police presence for 10 tiles and level 30 military presence for 20 tiles.
The Statue radiates level 25 military presence for 14 tiles.

There are two directly related happiness factors dependent upon the building auras:
  • Crime Safety = the balance of the crime and police presences
  • Liberty is reduced mostly by military presence and somewhat by police presence (other positive factors)
.
Perhaps there were other ways to respond to disbelief which was perhaps justified by intuition about what is logical. At least as wrong as I was then, I'm still hanging in here.
