Yes, I am addicted to Tropico 2. Ok, I was...

In building some of my scenarios, I have noticed an error with some of the events defined in T2GameTypes.

The events are EVENT_SANK_MERCHANT_FRANCE, EVENT_SANK_MERCHANT_SPAIN, EVENT_SANK_WARSHIP_FRANCE & EVENT_SANK_WARSHIP_SPAIN.

French merchants and warships are reported under the events above as Spanish ships sunk and vice versa. English ships sunk are reported under the correct events.

Since there is no further patch planned (as far as I know) I thought I would post my findings here in the scripting help so that anyone else writing scripts might find this out the easy way unlike me.

ahm... not quite so

the events are reported right. In fact they are shown as you described at the strategic map. The map is wrong.

Just watch your captives and you'll see.

I compared the reports to the numbers coming the functions and absolutely confirmed the error.

forget the reports, they are wrong
watch da blinkenlight, ahm, sorry da captives!

think of this: new game, first battle with a well equipped frigate bringing home lots of captives and, quess what their nation is?

the script-function tells it's france, the captive-nation tells me it's france, the captive-names are all france and the report insists it has been a spanish ship, also the overview on the left of the map said it'd be spain.

What do french folks on spanish ships?
irritate da russians?

I lost you on the example you were trying to give, but I do know that the reports have matched to the local traffic in a zone (which is what madders IMHO). I have seen where a ship sailing in a zone with high Spanish traffic and no French traffic will be correctly report Spanish kills in the ship's log. These kills will then be credited as French for the functions. I have not looked at other things such as names of the captives.

Just seen this thread to say thanx TJ.

I saw your comment to this effect in one of your scenarios a while ago,  and credited you in one of my scenarios for this knowledge.  Saved me a lot of bug-searching.

This seems to be a complicated issue. In T1, one similiar label error has been discovered. My problem is being unfamiliar with the T2 scripting system. I'll try to sort this out a bit.

Script Function:
  • EVENT_SANK_MERCHANT_FRANCE
    • report & overview on the left of the map = Spanish
    • captive-nation & captive-names = France
  • EVENT_SANK_WARSHIP_FRANCE
    • report & overview on the left of the map = Spanish
    • captive-nation & captive-names = France
  • EVENT_SANK_MERCHANT_SPAIN
    • report & overview on the left of the map = French
    • captive-nation & captive-names = Spain
  • EVENT_SANK_WARSHIP_SPAIN
    • report & overview on the left of the map =  French
    • captive-nation & captive-names = Spain
.
... the reports have matched to the local traffic in a zone (which is what matters IMO). I have seen where a ship sailing in a zone with high Spanish traffic and no French traffic will correctly report Spanish kills in the ship's log. These kills will then be credited as French for the functions. I have not looked at other things such as names of the captives.

The "local traffic" is part of the strategic map display. The "ship's log" is the report for an individual ship's specific cruise. The "functions" are part of the book - 'Island Log'.
