this may seem like a stupid question but here goes
how do you place units on the map

Units are added to the map using script commands in scenario scripts. The commands include

add_captain
add_pirates
add_unskilled
add_skilled
add_wealthy

Added units are placed randomly on the road network.

You can look at "PLAYER SAMPLE.txt" or any of the scenario scripts in the Tropico 2 \Maps directory for examples. The easiest way to get started is to copy and modify the player sample or one of the scenario scripts.

The scripting language is documented in DOCUMENTATION.txt in the \Maps directory.

Kempo--

Your first step should be to look in your Maps directory and read the file called DOCUMENTATION.txt. It ight also be helpful to open oneof the existing scripts. Bascially, each scenario or epsiode comes with a script.

Since it sounds like what you want to do is very simple, I'd do it by making a copy of an existing script file, renaming it, and adjusting rather than writing a script from scratch.

Oh, and the most important thing is that the script and the map you make in the map editor must have the exact same name for it to work. So the script could be called Firsttry.txt and the map file would be saved under the name Firsttry.{}
