The editor will knock your socks off.   Check out the mod area on the forum... you will soon understand.   Unlike most game companies, Paradox believes in making their customer-base part of the process.   They could not provide the after-market service that they do... without it.

MrP, I would not load any mods... right away.   Most of them will require tweaking, as a result of the new patch.

Remember, the game allows you to play ANY country that was possible during 1936-1948.  With the editor, you can create your own countries.    Each country has to be "hand-crafted" to represent its historical status... this is a slow process.

Would that mean, I could create the "Rhineland"  Shocked ?
I always wanted to test this: The German territories on the left bank of the Rhine were demilitarized by the Versailles treaty, as you know.
Hitler's first test for the weakness of the allies was to bring military in there.
Now, I want to form an alliance of that territory, with some areas right of the Rhine (we need Krupp and the coal from that area) + Netherlands, Belgium, Luxemburg, and Alsace-Lothringen. Than of course we march to Berlin to pay back  the Prussians for nearly 300 years of annection  Cool

Could I really do that ?  Shocked The German 1.05 has been released, too. I am out for the weekend anyway from saturday noon on. But if I order it from Amazon today, I could have it on monday.

Sto, don't quote me on this, but to the best of my knowledge... yes.   The modding possibilities leave most games in the dustbin.   They kept very little back... they really support their customer-base that enjoys modding.

I believe that HoI will support, up to 8 human players... on-line.   The official site has an area to get all kinds of MP info.   Unfortunately, the site is down... right now.   I guess the frenzy, to get the new patch, was more than their server could handle  Grin.

Ok...  I read part of the thread yesterday and reread the whole thing today... only AFTER going out and getting my paws on Hearts of Iron (see it is your faults really!).

I have yet to even run the setup...  having had to check the board here quickly.

Any advice you can give me on patches, etc. would be appreciated.

Yeah that's it!  It was your fault (the plural you form)!

Now I just have to convince my wife of that.  Tongue

Normally, I would just say to to the Paradox site and grab what you need.   There site has been down and is still down.   You can get what you need at this site.

http://www.roadtowar.com/modules.php?name=Downloads

Go to lower right-hand corner and look under Newest Downloads.   You want to get the following:

1.  HoI 1.05 NA Patch
2.  1.05 Fix n Tweakpak 27 JUNE

When you add patches... you can have problems with existing saved games.

No problemo at this point.  I am so new that I haven't played anything worth saving yet anyway.

I got distracted by the game and toally blew off the manual where they have you attacking Poland.... and spent a long time just fiddling around without knowing what I was doing.  Nearly cost me every unit 1936 Germany had in the country, but I did manage to annex both Poland and Denmark.

Thanks to Mr. P.  I also got curious and blew the hell out of the Polish and Danish navies with the German Navy.  Interesting to see what it might have accomplished with no interference from England.

In short... I'm hooked already more than likely.

Well, I am having a blast playing this game. Sadly the stability has worsened since I first downloaded the new patch, although I will keep an eye out for any new tweaks.

So far I have been playing Brazil and have managed to crush Uruguay, Paraguay and Bolivia, the later being quite difficult as you have to cross the Andes, so your troops are almost drained by the time they get there. Next stop Chile, then the Argies. Grin

My biggest hint for all new players? Do not under estimate the value of 2-3 dive bombers on massed enemy troops. Sending these planes over on a 'loop' continually hitting the opposition is a joy to watch, as their organisation tumbles. Be careful to research night flight of they are flying in the dark, as they can take some nasty hits.

El, I have mastered the ol' international trade as well, and am now flush with resources. Now I need to learn how to use the research to my best advantage, as there are only so many IC's left after mass-building my artillery tank brigades.

Next I think I will play one of the big 7 and really push my PC. Undecided

How is everyone else getting on?

Yup Sto', those evil Argies have laid territorial claims on the Falkland Islands in HoI.

Needless to say I feel a certain obligation to relieve Great Britain of this burden, during their struggle for the free world.

Currently the world in my game is the UK and Russia vs Germany, with the US staying firmly out of the war. No doubt when the Japs attack Pearl Harbour the US will feel obliged to come and rescue the world. Tongue

OK, a revised listing shows:

1.  MrP
2.  Peron
3.  MrCb
4.  el malo
5.  Bullet
6.  Sto

I need to spend time playing as one of the Big 8... I suspect strategy is alot different than with a minor nation.

I keep having nasty trouble with resources, supply, etc.

I think I might be biting off more than I can chew too... trying Germany right away.

I Had similiar experience as Mr. P., though I chose Argentina instead of Brazil and lorded it over Uruguay and Paraguay, annexing them before turning to attack Chile.

Midway through my ruinous assault over the Andes  -(which I think claimed more victims of my armies than as did any of the opponents I encountered until that time) - the Allies declared war.

I hadn't much left of an army and when New Zealand and England sent invasion forces, my little experiment was pretty much done.

Mind you I hadn't much of a clue about how to even build armies or manage resources at that point.

  It was still great fun.

I did try Argentina again... and caonquered Uruguay and Paraguay with the Allies declaring war on me just as before.  But now I have been building troops and have managed to hold off their invasion forces....  even harassing their shipping.

Germany, Italy and Japan are all trying to influence me.....

Geeze this may not be so bad afterall.

VIVA PERON... the new Napoleon of South America.     When you have built up enough to continue your conquests... leave Brazil alone for now.   Go after Chile and Peru.

I don't know about Napoleon.  Tongue

I wish I had saved at certain points, because I think I blew it ultimately.

I decided to create a personal victory standard of holding out until the real war started in 1939; which I was able to do...  even being invited to join the Axis in that year.

  That was a personal goal.

It worked well enough, but supplies were very thin at that point, so I wasn't able to do much about it in South America, having to settle for sending what I could to my new "friends" to use in Europe.

THEN I had the brilliant idea to attack Chile, and by then they were strong enough to repel anything I could throw at them.

 Undecided

Anyway...  I'm HOOKED!  There will always be a new war to play, and a chance to try something different.

Just wish the economy was easier to keep tabs on.  I don't seem to realize that I am having a problem until a resource begins to get very low.

heheheh... you will have to use some mustard gas  Grin.

Hey, if you are going after Chile and Peru... you will need lots of Mountain Infantry.   Don't mess with to much Armor.

I've got one going as the Arggies where Paraguay, Uruguay and Bolivia have fallen to my valiant and victorious armies.   I built some naval transports and invade Haiti.

I have not allied with any of the alliances.  I like to stay a neutral... if possible.   The Western Allies are starting to get miffed at me, but since the US is not at war yet...

NOW he tells me I will need lots of mountain troops.

I sent in 11 plus divisions of regular infantry and got  chopped down to about half that.

I got Peru too in that game though.  Smiley

I thought I would try something different and ran a game as Venezuela to see how a rich country lives.

Ya gotta be careful with Venezuela I found out.

I had a comical incident where I sent 3 divisions (one regular infantry and two militia) to war against Cuba.

Had a battleship pounding the battlefield, since I could easily afford to build one right away...  and a couple of cruisers circling the island, along with the transports and destroyer escorts I was using.

Anyway. while I am getting my clock cleaned at the far end of the island,   the Cubans send down their entire army from Havana.  It was a little larger than I had originally guessed in case you couldn't tell by now!

I retreated to the transports, moved them to Havana, unloaded them and claimed the now unguarded city for myself... and had the good fortune to ANNEX the country in so doing.  Pretty good for my measly army.

I'll bet that other general would have been miffed if he weren't AI.  Tongue

Oh, how I should have read this thread before invading Chile and Peru.

Talk about getting my butt kicked. All the way across the Andes.

I had guessed that mountain troops were the way to go, but thought that my drowning them in tanks and artillery-supported infrantry I woul dbe OK. How wrong I was.

What started as 1400 vs 300, was soon down to 1000 vs 250. so....erm....mountain troops from now on then. Grin

It looks as if having the most advanced techs, compared to my enemy, means nothing without the right troops in this game. Undecided

Oh the shame of it all. Embarrassed

When you click on the terrain map... most of Chile & Peru are grey.    You have to start building them for Bolivia anyway... just keep the production-run going.
