I knew there was a reason why I wasn't looking forward to Bolivia.

  That would be it.

Don't feel bad Mr. P.   I could barely afford building the two tank divisions I first lost trying to go after Chile.

Now common sense nags me , asking me to picture a platoon of guys trying to push a tank....  through the mountains no less.

Some new games are way easier than others... even at the easiest setting.

I am off to conquer.  I am amazed at how my sense of time seems to dissappear when I am playing that game.

Yes, it's 1940, of course there's time.  Wink

Feb '42 - I am still neutral... been spending DI's like water on US and UK.   They are "tolerate" of me... so far.

The 1st Argie Army has occupied Antofagasta (Chile) from its base in La Paz (Bolivia).

The 2nd Argie Army has moved from Mendoza (Argentia) into Concepcion (Chile)... all resistance has been crush.

The Argentina Navy and the Chilean Navy fought an in-conclusive battle in the sea-approachs to Santiago.

What is left of the Chilean Army is surrounded by my forces in Santiago.   Chilean militia units are now entering the battle-lines.

The Argentinian Air Force is conducting tactical bombing missions against the Chilean rats... hiding in Santiago.

  Keep going.

I restarted (third attempt?) as Argentina in 1936.  Building up Mountain troops as you suggested.

I lost a battleship being overly bold when attacking allied transports, just to have them send in a huge fleet when I wasn't looking.

I also beefed up coastal fortifications and AA  in Buenos Aires, Montevideo and  Mar del Plata.

They attempt to land forces there and are quickly decimated.

While I build my armies, my dissent level from conquering Uruguay and Paraguay continues to drop.

I will be reattempting Chile soon.  This time with the Mountain troops that you recommended.

I will also be paying attention to sending with them a mix of engineers and artillery divisions (which I wasn't doing before).  Maybe this will help hold down my casualties.

No Bolivia...

I think the engineers help keep your percentages up when moving.   The artillery should at least... increase Chilean casualties.

Except for a small reserve of DI's for DoW's... use them to influence the major powers.   Try to be on good terms with the Allies... especially.   I have had good luck remaining neutral and not provoking armed reponses.

Ehich way do you direct the gov't... when elections occur?

Well it is Summer of '38 and haven't had the first election yet.

Just finished wiping the floor with Chile.  Mountain troops yeah!

Used some DI to persuade Brazil and Bolivia to give me military access, which they have agreed to.

Flipping a coin now about whether to attack Peru or Venezuela next.  I would really like to have Venezuela, but it is far away.

The allies seem to be sending ever larger invasion attempts my way.

  Anny suggestions will be appreciated.

I am at a temporary lull, gaining strength before attacking wherever next.

Quote
Summer of '38

The Argentinian Empire now has Paraguay, Uruguay and Chile... dadgumed good job.

I would say click on the terrain map... what are your forces best equipped to handle?   Are you prepared for jungle warfare?   If you are ready for mobile warfare in the plains... don't mix infantry and motorized/armored in the same stacks.

Personally, from what little I know, go after Peru and Bolivia with your Mt. troops.   While doing this... prepare for a confrontation with Brazil.  Get those jungle-warfare schools set up  Grin.

Also, as production allows... build up one good stack of mobile troops.

What is your dissent level... now?

I took the Peru option.  It is now two years later at the last save and I have huge forces on the South American East Coast.   Not really enough to jump up to Venezuela without alot of transports.

I have sent in troops to occupy the colonies, even managing to "capture" a fleet of five English submarines.

Australia and New Zealand harrass my eastern shoires with invasion forces.  Shouldn't they be busy with the Japanese?

The allied attacks on my western shores have all but stopped.

Even with major redeployment it will take years to reach Venezuela.

My available manpower is hovering just above zero with so many infantry units.

I think I must redeploy nevertheless and take advantage of my superiority now while it still exists.  I am thinking amphibious landings.

I have one of the two Battleships I started left to use to pound the beaches with.

And it got 6/10 in PCPowerplay. Hearts of Iron 2 is an absolute giant of a real time strategy game, and definantely not for the faint hearted.

And the RRP is only $30, so I might get it, since it won't break my bank  Tongue
