Cry I love this game and had a blast with it for a long time. In fact, I just about finished the campaign. My problem is, during the last scenario of the campaign, the game started to have unbelivable lag. Everything would just freeze for a few minutes, then I'd get a few seconds where I could play, than it would freeze again. Now everytime I start the game, I have sound, my cursor moves, but the graphics are all screwy and the characters don't move.
Around the same time this happened, I was also having difficulty with StarWars Galaxies not working with similar symptoms and Windows noticed my memory was damaged, so, I have completely upgraded my computer, new motherboard, new processor, new memory. And what's really annoying, nothing changed. Still the same problem. I competely uninstalled tropico2 and then reinstalled it. It still doesn't run. Same thing, I go through all the start up screens fine, but as soon as I try to start a scenario, the island looks like a neon jigsaw puzzle and none of the people move. I tried starting in safemode and it looks like it will work, but I'd much rather have a better solution.  PLEASE HELP!!
Thanks

After you upgraded your computer and reinstalled Tropico2, is it the only software that does not work, or does StarWars Galaxies or other stuff also still not work???

From your post I am pretty sure you have a hardware problem, not a problem wiht the software on your computer. If I had to guess (and it is only a guess) I'd say your video card is trashed.

Thanks, actually that's the conclusion I eventually came to as well. It turns out that Direct X 9 is completely incompatible with GeForce 4 video cards. So it sort of was a software problem, but not a fixable one. I got a new video card and it works now. Thanks for the help.
