Hello again everyone,

In a game I was playing last night, I kept experiencing shortages of cigars.   I had a tobacco farm located in a prime (dark green) spot, but yet the cigar factory never seemed to have enough raw materials. So I followed the cigar maker's hauler for awhile.

She went to the tobacco farm, which was showing 13 tobacco.  When she departed, the number dropped to 0, so I assumed she had grabbed all 13.  But when I clicked on her, her thoughts said "I am hauling (2) tobacco."  At that point, I thought I'd found the problem with why I couldn't get enough cigars.  Yet when the hauler got back to the cigar factory, she dropped off a full 13 units.
 Huh

So I still don't know what's going on with the cigar shortage, but I seem to recall reading in another thread that these inaccurate cargo thoughts are a known bug (introduced by the patch) for haulers... can anyone tell me if this is true? Thanks in advance...

Tappy there may be a bug with the reporting -- I have not confirmed this. But I am relatively sure there is no bug with the actual amounts delivered.

This was not changed in the patch.

Yep it does seem that the actual amounts are indeed being delivered correctly by the hauler.  The reporting does seem off, though, but not every time...?  If I get time tonight I'll watch it a bit more and see if I can figure out when/where the reporting is inaccurate.

The cigar shortage problem I mentioned seems to be happening because I had established entertainment buildings, 2 dens and 2 brothels, that each needed cigars.  So I think the pirates were basically smokin' 'em as fast as they could get 'em.  Now that the industry has been active a little while, I think the problem is slowly fixing itself.

I have a guess about the bug. If you feel like confirming it it would be useful. The hauler may be reporting the amount he originally reserved when he started the trip.

Haulers 'ask' their worksite what is needed most and then look around for a source. They pathfind to the nearest source that has a certain minimum amount at the time they are pathfinding.

Whatever that amount is, is reserved for them and cannot be picked up by another hauler.

However, say they reach their pick-up site and more has been made. They will take the extras as long as no other hauler has reserved it in the meantime.

So the hauler could be reporting the amount he originally reserved. The one thing that makes this unlikely as an explanation of the bug is that it is tough for me to believe that 11 extra cigars could have been made while the hauler was enroute. If the difference was, say 3 or 4, if would seem more possible that this is what is going on.

I thought the addition of these numbers in the patch 1.2 was a good thing.  I noticed it was incorrect on some occasions - and always an undercount. Ive had some plesant surprises when more turns up than expected.

I saw this posting yesterday and the open question in the last post. Thought I would run a test to see if what was happening could be explained.

Set up: Sandbox - has been running 9.5 years. One Brewery on the island with 4 Beer consuming buildings. One Den has a 10 Beer stock - so will want more. Brewery has two cooks and loads of corn. None of them has a hauler working (currently nor very recent past).

16Jul1659: Hauler slot opened in Den. Ethan takes job and immediately heads for Brewery. Beer available at that instant = 8
01Aug1659: Ethan arrives at the Brewery. 11 Beer. Drops to 0 Beer. Ethans thoughts display says he is hauling 4 Beer.
11Aug1659: Ethan delivers Beer to Den. Supply at Den goes from 8 to 19 (+11). Delivered amount correct.
11Aug1659: Ethen heads out again to Brewery which has 1 available.
21Aug1659: Ethan arrives at the Brewery. 3 Beer. Drops to 0 Beer. Ethans thoughts display says he is hauling 1 Beer.
31Aug1659: Ethan arrives at Den. Supply goes from 18 to 21 (+3). Delivered amount correct.
Ethan repeats this run two more times, each time 1 available when he sets out, picking up three each time and displaying 1.  Ethan remained the only hauler in the game.

Re-ran the test from the same starting position:
16Jul1659: Hauler slot opened. Ethan takes job and immediately heads for Brewery. Beer available at that instant = 8
About 20Jul1659: Brewery just increased to 9 Beer supply. Fire Ethan from Den job. He continues with path to brewery. Johnathan takes hauler job and also heads for brewery.
26Jul1659: Elsewhere on island a Pirate kills a captive (first time I encountered this). Nathan takes the vacant builder job but continues with hauler path to Brewery.
01Aug1659: Ethan arrives at the Brewery. 11 Beer. Drops to 2 Beer. Ethans thoughts display says he is hauling 4 Beer.
11Aug1659: Ethan delivers Beer to Den. Supply at Den goes from 9 to 18 (+9). Delivered amount correct.
11Aug1659: Ethen changes clothes and heads out to take construction job.
11Aug1659: Johnathan arrived at Brewery. Supply 3 Beer drops to 0 Beer. His display says he is hauling 2 Beer.
22Aug1659: Johnathan delivers Beer to Den. Supply there rises 17 to 20 (+3). Delivered amount correct.
22Aug1659: Johnathan goes get more Beer from Brewery where supply is currently 2.
01Sep1659: Johnathan picks up 3 Beer. Supply drops from 3 to 0. Johnathan says he is hauling 1.
10Sep1659: Johnathan delievers to Den. 19 to 22 (+3) Correct delivered amount.
10Sep1659: Johnathan goes get more Beer from Brewery where supply is currently 2.
20Sep1659: Johnathan picks up 3 Beer and says he is carrying 1.

Test stopped.  Can continue either if required.

Does this help explain what is happening ? I cannot see a perfect explanation.  It shows the reservation effect in action.

A few more examples of hauler thoughts about load  being incorrect.

6 different lumber camps are down to their last few loads of wood for pick up. No trees have been on the island for 6+ years so loads available have not changed between assingnment and collection.

Camp 1: Wood 20 - hauler picks up all - thinks he has 10
Camp 2: Wood 14 - hauler picks up all - thinks he has 7
Camp 3: Wood 14 - hauler picks up all - thinks he has 7
Camp 4: Wood 18 - hauler picks up all - thinks he has 9
Camp 5: Wood 18 - hauler picks up all - thinks he has 9
Camp 6: Wood 24 - hauler 1 picks up 20 - thinks he has 12
Camp 6: Wood now 4 - hauler 2 picks up 4 - thinks he has 2
