Mountaineers do it for Tropico

« on: 01/20/04 at 02:48 PM »

Thought it was about time I had a moan to you few remaining Tropicologists.
I've got 121 scenarios and have completed them all bar about 20 and every now and then I leave RT3 to try and get these although some are just ridiculous.
Anyway I tried (yet again) La I L where the objective is $500k tourist revenue and 90% tourist happiness. You'd think revenue was a piece of cake given what's been said about it being THE big earner but no, it's real hard to meet the target and as for the Happiness that's ludicrous. I had at least one of EVERY tourist attraction and peons entertainment items and my highest figure was 78% (and what was worse was that on the Almanac Score page it only read 46). I'd bulldozed my early earners (Timber & Gold Mine) and built over the sites so I'd no detrimental items. 2 cathedrals, Papal visit, Pan Carib games etc etc.
So (1) Is it possible to get tourist approval as high as 90% and, if so, how.  And
(2) Has anyone succeeded on La I L?
Over to you! Angry Roll Eyes Grin Angry

I have never played the scenerio in question.... but you can get your tourism score up there using the edicts: Mardi Gras, Headliner, Tourism Ad Campaign. Easy on Mardi Gras because it raises your crime score.

In September of 2002, someone named raymondum made it. Here (from another board which is now gone) is his message:

Quote
I finally got to 90 entertainment only to find out that you need $900K in tourism revenue instead of $500K. Apparently the score page is wrong and the opening letter/message is correct. The way I got to 90 was to have 5 casinos, 4 night clubs, 5 gourmet restaurants. I had thought that you could only have only had one stadium; silly me! I'm fixin' to try it with one of every thing, i.e. 2 pubs (no dress code + upscale), 3 restaurants (paper, cloth, linen) and so on.
I worry now though about $900K in tourism revenue. Whereas 500k and even 700K is no problem, I wonder about 900K.
Also, I heard somewhere that it's better to open a new entertainment venue every year or two as opposed to several in one year. I wish someone would explain EQ and why it drops every January 1.
Also, monitoring the edicts have been driving me to distraction, but I just thought of cancelling them on January 1 of the year that they are to expire and immediately reissuing them the same day while still in pause.

The $900k in tourist revenue was a scripting error which has been corrected. Madame President was the scripter and she said:
Quote
Well, basically you have to plan for tourism from the beginning and to get to 90, you issue papal edict and pan games edicts at the very end so that you just cross over.

I hope that helps.  Grin

Hellfire Kid I learn something every day Grin I've downloaded the link so I'll look at tomorrow when I'm sober and less tired (coming up to midnite here!). Money isnt a problem in I L so I guess if I built enough builders offices I could get them all built and see what happens. You may also need 3 power stations!

These days I'm trying to get through La Isla Languida.  So far I've only got the EQ to 80 on both attempts.  But I know have used the pan-games edict too early,  now that I've seen M.P.'s quoted reply.

It seems the EQ is only related to the tropicans,  not the tourists (the EQ in the score page is always the same as the EQ on the happiness page).  My EQ increased a little when I barred all tourists after I reached the $500K target.  The 13-25 age group were least satisfied by entertainment - I tried having that age group's music on the radio;  don't know if their EQ is increased.

Hovering the cursor over a tropican's "entertainment" next to their entertainment satisfaction bar displays their favourite 3 attractions.  Many of them include cabaret,  whose EQ is always well below 90  Undecided.

Building the electric entertainments early allows them time to increase EQ as workers gain experience,  hiring them from abroad (they come with some experience).  I also have "listen with larry" on TV.  Lots of roads too,  I estimate Tropicans to double their speed on them.

"love it or leave it" seems the obvious choice;  a sample of new immigrants arrived with full entertainment satifaction so I guess they all do.

Ideally I'd display a list of Tropicans by EQ and eliminate the least satisfied.  Or make them all unhappy and leave until there are only a handful to manage? Cheesy

I reached the $500K target and 90 EQ with 2 years to spare,  but it didn't give me the win! Shocked

The EQ drops back 8 points every Jan 1,  so I suppose
- either the score is only checked every Jan 1
- or the $500K target is incorrect. Sad
It doesn't check at the end of every month,  I achieved the score at the beginning of a November.

3 power stations,  but don't staff the logging camp,  and only build money-earners which are tourisms;  mardi-gras edicts and headliners continuously.

Television and Radio have nothing to do with entertainment quality.

To raise entertainment quality, use mardi gras and headliner.

Perhaps you do have a version which doesn't have the correction.

It shouldn't be a great difficulty to check the revenue script error, and to check when\how often victory conditions are tested.

Well as I started this off umpteen years ago Cheesy Grin Cheesy I thought I'd better give it another try and ended up with my usual dismal failure - ie about 45% but only just short of necessary income.

I built 3 construction offices very early and no more - obviously not enough - how many did you more successful Presidente's build?

Anyway once more I'm  Embarrassed Embarrassed Embarrassed Embarrassed Embarrassed - although it was my first game of Tropico for several months.

Thx about the radio info.  I used "learning with larry" on TV which doubles the rate at which workers gain experience,  thus increasing entertainment workers' experience and therefore the EQ they provide.

Quote

I just checked it,  it has the target as $900K.  It looks like it is checked at the beginning of every year. Cry

I have about 6 or 7 full construction offices at any time;  3 teamsters.

Nightclub and pub as early as possible,  then mardi-gras and headliner edicts continuously.  Plenty of other needs (cathedrals,  hospitals) so workers don't spend so much time going to them.  Lots of roads to speed them on their way.  As MP said,  pan-games and pope edicts at the end.  All my entertainment was free.

Tourism:  6 hotels,  4 beach sites,  3 scenic outlooks,  1 spa,  1 airport (which made about $15K per year),  1 bank.  The tourism trade needs few workers.

Early money:  convert all farms but 1 to tobacco.  Convert some back to corn later.  The commentator says "your people starve" even when the marketplaces are stocked up.

o/K I'm now seriously into this and with 13 years to go I should have no difficulty in making $900k income which I take it is needed so its just a question of that 90% entertainment rating. So over to the Experts for technical info.

There are 10 buildings in the Entertainment area and from what I've read here and elsewhere only visits to these by Tropicans (ie not tourists) count towards the score. I'm not certain though whether visits by Tropicans to Tourist Attractions are also needed.

This is because once the $900k is made I can reduce not just Entertainment to Nil entry charge but also TAs - if necessary.

It's also obvious that Headliner (H) and Mardi Grass (MG) are needed plus Pan Am Games but the other Edicts seem to be just to attract tourists - Tourist Ad, World Geographic and (particularly not as it always really increases crime) Spring Break.

Whilst the H & MG edicts last 3 years the Entertainment score falls dramatically in years 2 and 3 so its essential to save them for 3 years prior to the final year (or the year after you make $900k) so that every edict can be made in Jan of that year. Apart from agreeing to the above (or correcting if I'm wrong) my next point on which I'm unsure is whether there's any point in issuing H & MG edicts until then (o/k you'll probably do it to increase tourism) so as to boost your Entertainment rating - ie is there any cumalative effect in your Tropicans from past visits or is it just what they visit in the year in question? Really I'm asking when I should make Entertainment buildings free.

Another thing - tax rebate - does this give the Tropicans more spending money or is it just a Happiness thing - and similiarly I've been buttering up to the religious so I can get the Papal edict in - but I'm now thinking this a waste and I'm just losing space on my little island which I could use for better things and that going to church doesn't count towards entertainment rating - am I right?

I'll get this dadgumed scenario yet!  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

When I first posted my message #3, Madame President's web site was active. She since has taken it down because it was hacked. She no longer visits here.

I do not have a crisp recollection of the scripting problem. However, the foggy recollection I do have is that the version that has the 900k income setting has a relationship error that prohibits winning altogether - that is, even if you hit the 900k.

Perhaps Brf could be so kind as to look at the version that is posted where ever our main repository of user scenarios is. Since Madame President doesn't come around anymore, it is probable that she would not care if he corrected any errors.

Well I've proved that $900k is easy - I had $1.05m but despite maximum of cinemas/ El Prez, 3 casinos/nightclubs/posh restaurants, 2 stadiums and umpteen pubs/restaurants and everything else all set at $1 (including tourist attractions) plus every edict (incl Papal Visit and Tax Rebate) I only got to 66% so its beyond me.

Also it looked to me as though cutting cost was counter productive as nobody went visiting whereas there'd been quite a lot before I cut the cost.

I wonder if thats it and PI actually makes EQ scores harder to obtain - apart from not getting above 65 it also dropped back far more than 8 points at the start of each year although I didn't keep track of that.
