My daughters used to play it until they got the latest - Makin Magic edition.  It crashes during loading on their lap top which I think is down to RAM spec of machine being 16meg short of the minimum spec.

Wont let the game onto the main computer cos its such a hard drive hog as well.

In terms of playing it (prior to getting magic edition) they liked cheating to generate cash then spending hours on designing an ideal house. They rarely play the game for character progression or interaction.

Last Played Tropico2 in Oct2004...after 9 months of playing it.  Not bad value for a £10 purchase.

Was awhile ago and I will be once the sims2 comes out. Too bad they didn't make tropico a destination in "the sims: Vacation"

I like the Sims, but I prefer the building and acquisition part to the interaction stuff.  I do think the animals are cute though.

Well I used to spend sleepless nights playing the game, both intereaction and building. Sometimes I would be building my sims's house or sometimes I would be working for the cash needed to build the house.

Cheating spoils the game.... it spoils all games.

I played the Sims for a short while in the earlier phases of the phenomenon, it didn't take long before I was overcome by the sensation that I was playing with dolls.

Además... I really like having solid goals in gameplay--something to shoot for.  I don't find it fun to work and pay bills in real life, only to have to work and pay bills in my pass times.

I like the Sims, even though I haven't played for a while. I like not having goals, I usualy play Tropico on open-ended.

I also find that for me The Sims is one of the few games which behaves its self for me. Very rarely have problems with it. The only more reliable games I can think of are Tropico (except that it jams on my PC), and Civ 2, but that's so old and basic a CD player could probably manage to run it.

Elections? Who needs elections?!

You guys are probably going to laugh, but I almost stopped playing Sims after I got Tropico.  Grin

I mean, now that I know about all the cool features of Tropico I go back to Sims and expect to find it there as well, but I don't.

"Hey, what do you mean their needs don't have importance weights? That's too simplistic!"

or

"I really hate this sim. Nobody should be this annoying. Maybe I should toss him into the dungeon. Oh, right, can't do that..."

or

"Hey, my sim's unhappy because he can't afford a wide-screen TV to have fun. I should raise his pay. Err, right, not up to me anymore. This is not fun! Sad"

Yeah, I know, they're different games and I shouldn't compare them, but I still find Tropico so much more fun. And to think I spent $50 on The Sims and got Tropico for only $8. Well, that's just plain unfair.

Come think of it, I should probably buy the expansions, even if they don't add anything. PopTop deserves more than $8 for this gem.

You can kill or imprison sims! To imprison them, just build a wall around them. I can think of two ways to kill them:

1. Build a swimming pool. When they go for a swim, remove the steps so the can't get out. They will eventualy fall asleep and drown.

2. Have them set off fire works indoors. The will burn.

Me and my brother had great fun with this once, because I think you get a gravestone whenever one dies, so we desined a "graveyard plot" with dozens of them.

Good point.  Not only is the original sims 50 bucks, but there's --what? about 175 expansions, and each of them is 30-40 bucks a pop.  What a racket.  Wish I'd invented it.  Cool

Still, a rip-off, in my opinion.  $210 altogether?  Think of all the drinks that could have bought.  Roll Eyes

But nowerdays you can probably get them really cheap. Besides, $210 is, what, £140? I think the amount of pleasure/lack of sleep I've got put of The Sims is worth that, although maybe I'm a bit daft.

I liked the regular Sims a lot better than the Sims 2. I have fun with the original Sims. I have all the expansions.
