Wrote a nice little script involving patron nation. Once a year after 15 years if you have a patron nation a parchment pops up offering 6 different kinds of aid (gold, sea rations, arms, skilled workers, unskilled workers or lumber). You make a choice, and even get to choose between different skilled workers. Even managed to get some sound effects added. I'll have to see if it makes the game too easy and adjust it accordingly, but mostly did it as a safety net for sea rations. I hate it when I start having 6 big ships sitting in dock for 3 years because suddenly my 12 farms have no way to get enough rations (seems a bit out of whack which is why I was trying to adjust my harvest amounts). I have it in my skeleton isle txt but it could easily go anywhere. If anyone is interested in it let me know and I would try to post it or submit it.

Ive seen a number of posts say their islands have ran out of lumber with no way of generating any more.

Having an event like this that offerred a bit of lumber for an outragous sum of money or slaves captives would get some players out of a rut.

No sea rations..pah...I scoff at my patron.  Have even more farms, fire the haulers at the breweries, let the captives go hungry. Use haulers in convoys to ensure the sea ration factories expert cooks are always supplied.  And off course whipped by overseers.  Wink

My biggest problem with the rations is always on the farm end, not the sea ration end. But my newest map with the script I must have set up better, because although I have been offered the rations and have 6 frigates I have yet to take them and have always opted for the lumber instead. That and actually reading the manual (will wonders never cease) has made all the difference in the world. I really never realised that sending ship out to the same area, even tho they don't leave at precisely the same time, constitutes a fleet. That would have been a great option...being able to form an actual fleet so they would leave together, but this seems to work too. I am glad i made the script tho...almost all my trees are cut and it would suck to hit a wall. Great for 30 year games but I like to play on and on.

If you play long games then cut timber fast is my advice.
