It's my Island

« on: 05/13/04 at 01:09 PM »

Ok, here goes.

Vegitation: Normal
Water coverage: 45%
Minerals: Normal
Starting pop: 30
Map size: 320 by 320
Elevation: 50 m
Political stability: Moderate
Economy: not too harsh now
Random events: Sometimes occur
Game length: 50 years

The King shoots the former president and sits in his chair. "Well, this should be fun", he says to no one in particular. "Now that I've left behind my carrer as a leftist author and have risen to power in a communist rebelion, I'm sure I can use my qualtise of being hard working and enrepeneurial to gain the support of the people, even if I am a paranoid coward"
Well, better start my diary"

1950: I need to give these people housing! They are living in shacks! But first I must take care of my own needs, so I issue the 'special' building permit.

With that taken care of, it's time to get money rolling in to go to switzerland help the people. Four farms? Two can grow tobaco. And I build a loging camp.

Now, to show the people my wonderous benevolance, I build them a pub and an apartment complex (aren't I kind).

1951: Most of this year was spent on building up the treasury, so I ordered a Mardi Gras to raise spirits.

1952 : My island is suffering from a lack of people who can read! Time to build a High School. I also build two more corn farms and a tenement to help house all those sniveling mangey peasents   wonderfull, hard working free citizens.

1953: I order the building of a church, but my lazy labourers won't get round to it for a while. I build two more appartment complexes, which mean all the peeps are now out of their shacks.

Since I'm feeling like a very generous el presidente, I issue social security for all those old men and women.

1954: Nothings happening! How boring; I give my guards permision to use beat the revelers in nearby pub for entertainment.

1955 : The year begins with a lively Mardi Gras (even though it's nowhere near Shrove Tuesday, by they don't know that).

In celebration of my five year presidency, I grant Food for the People .

My logging camp is working very well, so I build a Lumber Mill.

At long last my builders compleate that church, but I am forced to call in a high school ed to staff it, as the school isn't very productive.

1956 : I issue the orders to build a hotel, but like the church the builders decide their drinking is more important than the needs of the community, and so progress is slow (well, non existant).

I also notice a little woman named Sandrine Deniau is running through the streets with a burning flag. Make a note to speak to her once I have a prison.

1957-58: What boring years. I build a health clinic, but not much else.

1959 : The apartments are bursting to the seems (literely, you can't walk down the street without people falling from second floor windows due to the number of people in the room), so I build another three to take of the presure.

Another Mardi Gras brings the peoples happiness to over 50.

1960: To remedy the problem of the slow building work, I build a second construction office.

I write a not to myself saying "Horticulture station", with no idea what it means.

None of those high school eds are going to work in my lovely church! I therefore instruct the teachers to teach parocial education. It seems to make no difference.

1961: At last, my Hotel is finished. Now to start scaming tourists. He He He...

I also build four country houses, because there are four people still living in shacks. I figure they must love the location so much, the only way they'll move is by building in the same place as their shacks.

I also decide that closer relations are required with the superpowers, so build a diplomatic ministry, which puts my nest egg in Switzerland up to $10,000.

1962-65: Everyone is too busy listening to The Beatles to do much work, so very little happens. The population reaches 100 thanks to all that free love, and I hold a Beatle style Mardi Gras

1966: The Beatles have moved on to more experimental things, which only my intelectuals like. I can therfore build a marina and set it "Boat tours".

1967-68: My people discover they really do like The Beatles new style, so agins not much happens.

1969: I am informed that my people are starving? Who cares? Well, supose I should, so I build three new corn farms for the sniveling masses.

1970- 71: New decade, new horrizons. I build a power plant and a collage to provide workers for it with  workers. With all this juice, I decide letting go to waste is, erm, a waste, so I build a movie theater. The people are captivated by the strange moving images, and are delighted (honest) when they realise it is their president.

1972 : My people are getting a little unhappy, so I issue a tax cut (what a generous man I am). I also build three new appartment complexes.

1973 I suffer from a life thretning disease.

1974-77: I have discovered from my experience last year that healthcare is important. Of course, I had my own personal doctor, but others are not so lucky, so I build a hospital, fire all my clinic doctors and send them to work there, as well as persuading some other collage eds to get over their fear of blood, vomit, illness, death, hospitals, etc...

I also build a cigar factory so that those yanquis will have to visit their own hospitals more- and of course, they have to pay, but not with my Tropican NHS! Grin

Of course, those shiny new buildings allowed my to siphon a considerable amount of cash off to Switzerland, getting my account there to over $20,000.

1978: The environmentalist are complaining about the smoke coming out of my cigar factory (it's a cigar factory, what do you expect? I'd be very worried if rose petals were coming out of it!)

Anyway, I issue air pollution standards, but I think the damage is already done.

For the next episode of "The Great Dictator" (my AAR, not Charlie Chaplain's film), tune in whenever I can be bothered to finish it.

I've left the elections out bcause I'm winning them by quite a way, but I mention one later when it gets quite close.

You'll just ave to wait and see.

As you can see I play on quite low difficulty settings, but I got bored half way through this game so next time I might jack them up a bit.  Grin

I will try on the screenshots but they are on my latop and it isn't playing ball at the moment.

P.S. can anyone tell me what the horticulture station is? I made notes during the game and then typed them up nto this, and one of the notes I made was just "horticulture station", and I have no idea why I wrote it or what it is.

That often hapens to me. I make very brief notes and then have no idea what they mean later. I took a sheet of notes into my student coucil meeting and one of them was "example 11, 2, 3 etc...", and when I got there it confused me a lot.      Huh

OK, off we go again...

1979: So much electricity, so little usage. Time for the people to see me more. Of course, being a paranoid coward I would never go out in public, so TV seems to be the answer.

Up goes the TV station, and on comes my face.

1980-83: I issue a Mardi Gras to keep my people entertained, and build a cathedral for people to repent of all the mis-deeds they performed whilst drunk.

1984-85 : My population reaches 200 and I issue a Mardi Gras to celebrate (I do a lot of them, don't I?)

I also build a new hospital, as my existing one is full of dead people (I didn't shoot them, honest!)

1986-88 : Time to use the friuts of the earth to my advantage. There is a nicely placed bauxite patch just to the west of my city, so I build a mine next to it.

I notice that there are a large number of crates of cigars and planks of wood next to my docks, so I issue an industry ad campaign to sell them at a much higher price.

I notice that much of my city is too far away from the power plant, so build a substation. This also puts my mine in range, so I get to build lots of those nice refining devices.

Again my appartment complexes are getting full, so I build 4 new ones.

Finaly, the happiness of my people has raised to over 50. It had dropped a little recently.

1989: I have lots of money in the treasury, so decide to give my people a tax cut. Why you ask? I have no idea.

I also notice a disturbing tendency: people are moving into shacks once again. I must do something about this.

1990: Time to go on one last drive to fill up my swiss bank account: I build a bank and set it to El Prez slush fund.

1991-92: I build a pool for my tourists. You can only visit a pub so many times before it gets boring.

I also issue another Mardi Gras.

1993-96: I issue an industry as campaign once again. I try to bribe the leader of the Environmentalist as the faction hate me, but it seems to have no effect on the faction.

I finaly get all the people out of shacks, and issue a Mardi Gras to celebrate.

1997: My population reaches 250 people.

There are elections coming up- by the looks of the bars it's gonna be real close.

1998: This election is starting to worry me, so I issue a tax cut to get them on my side. It works immediately, and I win the vote 96 to 76.

1999: Time for a party! All my wages go up, I issue a Mardi Gras and manage to get the pope drunk when he comes to visit!

I've tried to post a screenshot but it's too big, so I'll have to tell you, my finaly score was 897.

How do you think I did? I don't think I did very well, I've had much higher scores. Like I said, I got bored half way through, so I need to put it on a higher difficulty setting.

Im too stale on Tropico1 to pass a valid opinion on how well you did.

But I like the pictures.  When you saved the screenshot..in MSPaint?...choose the save as JPEG..its much smaller file size compared to the default BMP file type that MSPaint always wants to use.

I never play for score, so I can't judge you either. It was a good game, though. A little boring for my bloodthirsty taste Cheesy, but still good. What fun is ruling your people if you don't oppress them?  Cool
