Hi El Pres' 4 ever How to cause protestors....... I played Tropico (original version) last week whilst away from home. First time in years. One of the scenarios that comes with the game...where you have to get tons of cash in your swiss account. I had my first ever Miltary Coup, first rebel and first protestors. Ive really forgotton how to play. To cause this the settings must have been quite hard I suppose but what really caused it was me playing Trop1 like I play Trop2. - Pay minimum wages: 1,2,3 respectively for unskilled, high school and college. - Short of workers I repeatedly fired workers from one job to get them to do another. Like making sure I had as many tourist hotels staffed as possible when a plane/yacht arrived. - didnt build any houses for years then only half a dozen bunkhouses. This did the trick of causing all that unrest...not that I was trying to make that happen Now in back home ive stopped playing Trop1. But heres a screen shot of a protestor. $1 per month construction worker who lives in a shack. Also shows the rebel who has disappeared from the map yet remains a fee paying customer of the nearby Bar. Now paying me 50 pesos per month! Maybe I should hire a soldier out of that 50pm Bar fee.
|
Regards
Last Played Tropico2 in Oct2004...after 9 months of playing it. Not bad value for a £10 purchase.

All right! if you can't kill'em rob'em. Revolution comes with a price it's 50$ for a glass drink up my rebel friend. only 50 pesos for you. otherwise El presidenete f 4 ever i have a saved game where exactlly on january 2000 tropicans start uprising around 300 are against me and about 150 support me a real havoc in the end there are homeless people throwing stones at my palace. very funny to see. but i general if you want to see protesters rebels or uprisings just treat your tropicans like sh*t and it will not be long until something happens. a Tropican ususally when protesting says "This government is terrible" "I'm going to protest against it in public. than it protests and than says "I will stop protesting now i might get in trouble. a very good thinking my friend. otherwise i also think that uprising start when there is 10 orr 12 protesters protesting at the same time. maybe not. riots rock!!!

To cause this the settings must have been quite hard I suppose but what really caused it was me playing Trop1 like I play Trop2. And MY problem with T2 is I try to play it like T1. Definitely micromanagement is a lot less effective in T1. And I can turn off those pesky random events.

My islands get pretty disgusting, too. But there are a few things that can help: Enact the "Anti-littering ordinance" immediately at the beginning of the game. This reduces the pollution that human traffic generates over time. There is another edict to control pollution from factories that you may want to enact as well (I usually don't bother), but you can do that later on when you have more money. Put power plants and factories on the downwind side of your island if at all possible. Try to segregate ugly or polluting buildings like mines, factories, and farms from your houses and entertainment districts. People do like to live close to work, but even a buffer zone a few grid squares wide can help. That also leaves you room for adding decor (or any building you forgot to leave room for ) later on. Plant lots of trees and build large fountains, to make your island more beautiful. The above said, I generally don't worry much about pollution, as long as any tourist areas I have (or plan to develop) remain relatively pristine. The environmentalists are the smallest political faction, and "living environment" is a small part of the overall happiness for most of your citizens.

Protesters, they are everywhere. if you're not lucky, they can protest and stir up trouble. P.s beware, they are known to cause Streets Uprising, just like in Haiti.

I had to re-enter my password, as the site showed me as a "guest". Which isn't hard, once I remember my password.

Yep. I had problems. Couldn't login for ages or even post as a guest. I emailed Cafe Dave then tried again and "what do you know?" I could login no problems. I had the same sort of feeling you get when all your symptoms disappear as soon as you go to the doctor!

Well the problem seemed to go away at about 19.00 on Wednesday 25th May BST, minus some 4 or more hours for Yank time. I don't know when exactly it started though. Probably sometime after what CK said.

I've never had a game crash to desktop when an uprising starts, but I hardly ever see one. But really, you're not missing a whole lot--your game is effectively over once the uprising starts, since they take years to resolve on anything but the smallest of islands.

Unfortunately, the thread wobbled all over the place, but failed to provide much information on protesters. Perhaps a quick review of how the player may lose would help. El Presidente takes to the escape rowboat when: - An election is lost. The people have lost respect and will not be kind. Get away while possible.
- The Leader of the Militarist Faction instigates a successful Coup.
- The army divides into insurgents who try to destroy the Palace and loyalists who defend it.
- A third group turns 'Chicken' and runs home to hide.
- The number of Rebels becomes large enough that they attack and destroy the Palace.
- Some on both sides turn 'Chicken' and run home to hide.
- The number of Protesters becomes large enough to set off a general Uprising
- The entire population divides into Protesters (insurgents) who try to destroy the Palace and Loyalists who try to defend it.
- Whether or not there are 'Chickens' is not known.
. The player should never make the mistake of just sitting back and watching any of these situations "resolve themselves." It is absolutely necessary to focus on the action and use any means to intervene to win an election or defend the Palace -- especially in the case of an Uprising. Protesters stop their ordinary activities and walk around with a flame over their heads - click on them and look at their thoughts for more information. The period of time they spend doing this varies. During this time, they radiate an aura that affects nearby citizens who also become more unhappy and likely to join the protest. Many players actively try to suppress protesters by arresting them for "Re-Education" in Prison. Some simply use the army to assassinate them, but this is dangerous because it has worse effects than just letting them continue to protest. Allowing a few protesters is usually harmless if the causes are noted, and the annual trend in numbers is tracked. If things get out of hand and an Uprising starts, the player has a civil war on his hands which he has to fight actively with draconian means. There are brief suggestions in other threads. Most players have been able to avoid Uprisings so there is not much reported experience. They don't take decades to resolve if the player goes to work instead of passively letting the AI run things.
