I just found out about an upcoming game that looks very interesting. It's called Children of the Nile and is sort of like Pharaoh with a Tropico twist that puts an emphasis on your citizens. Based on the screenshots, it looks like what Tropico 3 could be if done in 3-D. Go to the official site here: http://www.immortalcities.com/cotn/Even more exciting is that Cafe member Peron III has started his own forum based on this new game. You can check it out here: http://www.forum.jehromefritz.com/viewtopic.php?t=15Congratulations and good luck with it Peron!

http://www.immortalcities.com/cotn/gameinfo/faq.php This should answer your questions and more! But since I'm here I'll answer it here: " When will the game be out? We're on track for a holiday 2004 release, and have added lots of team members recently to ensure that we can deliver on this (as we always have). " (Cut and pasted from the FAQ at the CotN website)

I need to fix the links since i changed forum software! http://www.forum.jehromefritz.com/ That will get you to the Forum now. http://jehromefritz.com/ That will give you a choice of either the forum or fansite (still working on that... but viewable , just be ready with your back button!).

Maus, that is exactly what happened. Many of them worked at Impressions Games, the people who made Pharoah, Cleopatra, and Caesar III.

Does anyone have any info on the status of the Pharaoh's Forum? My link gives a page that says "This site has been suspended, contact the billing department."

Either that or, as El has just informed me, Hearts of Iron 2 is out soon. I was a big fan of the original, except for the fact that PC kept crashing it and there was a little too much micro-management. The previews suggest that has been sorted for HOI2, plus a new PC always makes games run more smoothly.

I was in the beta for it, and I can't tell much because of a non-disclosure agreement, but if you do decide to get Children of the Nile I strongly suggest you stop thinking in the traditional building game sense because it is very different. I'd also say the tutorials are mandatory because you will become very frustrated if you jump right in.

Eddy can you give me some feedback on the demo release?
Is it a cover disk job, download etc.
Any info you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

It should be a download available at their site. I think CafeDave posted the location up there /\ somewhere.
They'll probably have it available close to midnight your time.

Children is incredible.
One could go on for a long time extolling its virtues, pointing out some of the flaws...
The main selling point is that the game is beauitful to play. Visually stunning, great lighting... you can zoom from eagle eye right down to where a person's torso takes up the entire screen. It is quite entertaining to sit back and watch a city function. You can follow behind people, too, to see what they're up to. They even built a snapshot tool into the interface that saves snapshots.
The 3-D is great, you can re-enact scenes from the Matrix by pausing on a juggler and rotating the camera. Though up close people look like cardboard cut-outs. It's not quite Lord of the Rings - but good enough and probably takes a lot of older computers to task.
However - they still have a square grid with no diagonals. One of the wonderful innovations of RRT3 was the 360 placement of buildings, rails, etc. It's still very limited in Children.
Graphically, the farming in Tropico is more advanced. You can tell how many pineapples are in a given square. Farms on CotN are just one small square patch. However, they do of course respect seasons, which Tropico doesn't.
It takes a few runs to figure out how trade and the economy works. I've only played a couple of scenarios on easy. But it's coming together.
What excited me is that this is the first in a new direction (as far as I know) of these strategy city planning whatever genre type games. If Tropico could master the 3D... wow.
