I had to buy a new laptop the other week as my old one died. I couldn't get an XP os one for love nor money so had to bite the bullet and buy a vista os lappy.
The game installs, but won't run. I tried running it as an administrator and also in XP compatability mobe but neither seem to work!
Can anyone help? PLEASE, as I am having withdrawal symptoms!

You did not name your thread correctly. You really want to know about the latest piece of Microsoft crap:
VISTA!
You will be delighted to know that you are the first to report here that you have been had by VISTA.

I have seen no report from any of the hand-full of regulars that they have gone to VISTA. Someone may have, but I don't hold out much hope.

I suggest that you need to go to a VISTA help site.

Or you could go buy a MAC which will be more likely to work.

Yes, I kinda wrote it hurriedly in work, hence my faux pas.
Yes, I have truly been had by VISTA. But it wasn't for the want of trying to find an XP machine.
Cheers anyway.....

I'm sorry to have been somewhat testy.

I am soon going to have to buy a new computer and I am really unhappy about being forced to go to VISTA. First of all, it is a resource hog for no good reason other than lazy developers.

Second and worse, I have already lost several excellent games that will play only on Windows 95 in spite of what is claimed for XP. So your problem is an indicator that more games will go down the tubes with VISTA.

Since I don't have VISTA, I can't guide you -- but:

There some settings in the game which may affect compatability. I always forget what they are.

O.K. - I checked.

3D Mode - has always been reported to run with fewer problems in Software Mode. VISTA may be different.

Color Depth - 8 or 16 Bit. 16 worked fine with XP ; perhaps VISTA and the higher level DirectX requires something more. A killer?

Sound Quality - Who knows if this is related?

The other two settings that I don't understand are: Reducted Graphics Shifting & Anti-Aliasing which both seem to be related to 3D Hardware Mode. Since I always run in software mode, I have them 'off' - and have never tried to understand what they are about. VISTA killers?

Let's all shout together - Screw Microsoft! - today, tomorrow and forever.

Despite my appearance above, I'm really a hatter.

I purchased a new laptop in February, but didn't want to deal with Vista issues, so I reformatted the hard drive and installed XP on it instead.  I kept the recovery partition with Vista on it, just in case I do want to finally upgrade down the road...that is, once all the bugs are worked out and things sail a little smoother.

So, if you don't mind doing a little extra work, you can get still get your new laptop up and running with XP...
