I dunno about that.... The random events are always set at zero for me when I start them.... I thought it might remember the last setting you manually used, and use that one.... You know, the random events you last used on a random island, or on another scenerio.

In any case, that slider when you start the scenerio is what the randomevents is set to Before the scenerio starts.... This scenerio resets that number when it does the startup event.

Edit: I was replying to Belbincolne.... The random events slider is always zero for me. In this scenerio, that slider is overridden.

Hmmmm....I usually always win Ride 'em Caballero after  I decided to always use up my first money building inexpensive/$50 trees (third slot tree...the one that looks like a pompom..sorry..not a tree person Smiley During that first few years  the one construction office makes those trees actual barriers to the storms. While you get hit..well..i've never had a 20k loss, let's put it that way. Max, 5k.  Mostly I just lose one farm on each storm. Try to use up all  your money doing the tree barriers as the construction workers MUST concentrate on planting them and they won't if anything else is on their roster.

I usually do three longish 'commas' of cheap ($50) trees. One in front of the wharf. One near each bunch of the precious farms. This usually takes ALL of my 15k starting money. Of course the country houses and bunks are used, next in the game.  I don't overdo with construction offices...maybe 2. My population never gets very large, so 2 corn farms support it very well. I ensure that these are the first protected. Rarely are they every blown down.

I initially convert 2 or 3 of the corn farms to sugar farms..but frequently check to see that the soil still supports this or that kind of farm well. I vary the money-producing crops...pineapple, sugar..but never the long growing coffee.

Good luck! Hope this helps:))

Hooray I've just beaten this one, and it was tough! I even won all the elections!

I suddenly realised that the map layout was all wrong. With the dock as North, i closed down the two farms to the far E. Made some crops the boys could eat with the 2 farms furthest from the dock, rest to sugar. Drew a road from the W gold mine directly to the nearest coast W.ish, put a dock at the end. Put a pineapple farm nearby, 2 construction offices, teamster and logging camp all v. close by. Closed off the original teamsters office, and once the first new construction office was finished, closed off the original one.

With the first sugar money i started to build up this new town (there is actually a name but I can't remember it!) and left sugar well alone. I developed logging into lumber and furniture. Very few money probs, with maritime strikes yes. Ran down the military to 4 palace guards, the 1 rebel i got was soon sent packing, ungrateful swiiiiine!

..., I gave it a go, and survived only because the uprising that started in the late 1960s was still being resolved over a decade later, at the end of the game.

It is so sad that it somehow become written in stone that the player has to sit back and watch Uprisings resolve themselves. It's as if the player somehow becomes prohibited from taking any action to save his rule. There's no one saying that the player may do nothing for the year when an Election is in process. So why not do something in the other cases when your rule is in danger?

Prepare and fight back! Here's a link:

Unfortunately, there was not a dialog about this theory of decorative trees forming a "shield." That leaves too much information missing so a reasonable guess can't be made. Were all the storms 'pammie' experienced of a low category? How many of the decorative trees placed were lost in each storm?

Personally, I remain doubtful that this "shielding" system works.
