I recently pulled out my Tropico Mucho Macho Edition CD's and reinstalled to re-familiarize myself with a game I hadn't played in a LONG time...  Smiley

I'd forgotten how great the music was in this game, and how it really sets the mood.  Tropico and Evil Genius are two of the best games ever for that, IMO.

Anyhow, I got hold of a copy of TMR (thanks Weeds!) and converted the music in the data2 directory to mp3's.  Being a stickler for this sort of thing, I then wasted most of a Saturday morning Googling trying to put Artist and Title tags in my newly minted MP3's.

I thought I'd share the fruits of my efforts, and call for help.  I still have about 9 files that I could not match up to either of the Tropico CD's that were released, but are part of the in-game music (at least for the Mucho Macho Edition).

Here's the format of the following tables:
Filename - Artist - Title

Original Tropico:
XDAT02.mp3 - Jesus Alejandro Perez-Alvarez - Yo Te Amo Asi
XDAT03.mp3 - Luis Campillo - Negra Macumbe
XDAT04.mp3 - Narciso Garcia Gonzalez - Lejos De Mi Tierra
XDAT05.mp3 - Luis Carlos Campillo - Huepa, Huepa
XDAT06.mp3 - Daniel Indart - En La Palma De Tu Mano
XDAT08.mp3 - Oscar Luis Morejon - El Besito
XDAT09.mp3 - Daniel Indart - Cafe
XDAT10.mp3 - Daniel Indart - Amanecer
XDAT11.mp3 - Daniel Indart - Coco Y Ron
XDAT12.mp3 - Jesus Alejandro Perez-Alvarez - En Brazos De Mi Tierra
XDAT14.mp3 - Daniel Indart - Coco Y Ron (Instrumental)
XDAT15.mp3 - Daniel Indart - El Encuentro
XDAT16.mp3 - Daniel Indart - Como Te Gusta
Xdat20.mp3 - Daniel Indart - Los Parranderos

Tropico Paradise Island:
ADAT01.mp3 - Luis Carlos Campillo - Perrito Callejero
Xdat18.mp3 - Luis Carlos Campillo - Morena Cafe (Instrumental)
Xdat21.mp3 - Jesus Alejandro Perez-Alvarez - A Comer
Xdat23.mp3 - Daniel Indart - Cafecito Cubano
Xdat24.mp3 - Jesus Alejandro Perez-Alvarez - Sera Lo Que Quiero
Xdat25.mp3 - Jesus Alejandro Perez-Alvarez - Sera Lo Que Quiero (Instrumental)
Xdat29.mp3 - Oscar Luis Morejon - Ese Es Mi Amigo (Instrumental)
Xdat30.mp3 - Daniel Indart - La Promesa
Xdat32.mp3 - Jesus Alejandro Perez-Alvarez - Las Tres
Xdat33.mp3 - Luis Carlos Campillo - Me Quede Esperando
Xdat34.mp3 - Luis Carlos Campillo - Morena Cafe
Xdat35.mp3 - Jesus Alejandro Perez-Alvarez - La Playa
Xdat36.mp3 - Jesus Alejandro Perez-Alvarez - La Playa (Instrumental)
Xdat37.mp3 - Jesus Alejandro Perez-Alvarez - Sol, Mar y Arena
Xdat38.mp3 - Jesus Alejandro Perez-Alvarez - Te Vi
Xdat39.mp3 - Jesus Alejandro Perez-Alvarez - Te Vi (Instrumental)

Still Unknown:
XDAT07.mp3
XDAT13.mp3
XDAT17.mp3
Xdat19.mp3
Xdat22.mp3
Xdat26.mp3
Xdat27.mp3
Xdat28.mp3
Xdat31.mp3

This is what I was able to match up.  If you can help fill in the gaps, either reply to this thread, PM me, or send an email to tropico (at) billmoore (dot) net  Thanks!

Hey, many thanks for the above info/tags! Smiley

I really don't know any of the info for the unknown ones that you listed above, but thanks for the ones that you've researched. Heh, now I can finally add some proper ID3 tags to the MP3s for my MP3 player (as well as titling/indexing the Redbook audio CDs that I burnt eons ago) <G>.

A side note, one of the (unknown) MP3s, Xdat07.mp3... I *LOVE* that song, and was really irked that the "official" CD that Indart was selling didn't include that song (as well as, maybe what?, *75%* of the other songs that ships with the game <aarrgghh>... which is why I refused to buy the audio CD - BTW, the 'Crapintosh' <G> version of the game inluded MP3s!... *NOT* the encrypted XDT files). Hehe, that was BEFORE I stumbled upon the XDT->MP3 music converter utility (someone anonymously sent it to me ages ago, and at the time I hacked it to convert music the other way MP3->XDT)... I then made my OWN Tropico music two-CD collection <G> Smiley

Another pretty song (another unknown) that I like is Xdat22.mp3... some nice nylon string guitar in that one.

Lastly (another unknown), Xdat31.mp3 (although I'm not partial to that one)... what the heck genre is that <G>? Caribbean Pop <LOL>?

P.S. On the subject of MP3s, dunno if you have Tropico 2 or not, but the music for that game is stored in the "musi.{}" file (located in the "Tropico2\Data" subdirectory). The MP3s are lumped/compiled together in that file, along with some other indexing data (that the game uses internally).

I don't know if there is such thing as an MP3 ripping utility that can extract MP3s that are compiled in a large data file, but I extracted the 20 MP3 files myself manually with a hex editor. Man, what a major PITA that was <LOL>!

Unfortunately my server has been down for a week. A buddy of mine graciously provides me with the server/space, and I usually don't stay in contact with him too much (as much as I *should*, in thanks for the server space he gives me).

I haven't been able to contact him for a week or so now, sent and email to him as well as PM at another message board that he frequents, but have yet to receive a reply. His job requires a strange work schedule, so I'm thinking he may not be home at the moment... hope he is soon, as I'm "jones-ing" for my server space <LOL>.

Anyhow, I'll attach the file to this message post Smiley

I bought both the CDs from Daniel Indart Project (well actually three counting the Tropico II: Pirate Cove dud) because I had no idea there were more (24?) songs not included.

I'll give you the listings from the paper documentation that came with them.

  • Coco Y Ron - by Daniel Indart
  • El Besito - by Oscar Luis Morejon
  • Negra Macumbe - by Luis Carlos Camillo

  • Lejos De Mi Tierra - by Narciso Garica Gonzlez
  • Huepa, Huepa - by Luis Carlos Campilio
  • En Brazos De Mi Tierra - by Jesus A. Perez
  • El Encuentro - by Daniel Indart
  • Amanecer - by Sara Traina
  • Cafe - by Daniel Indart
  • En La Palma De Tu Mano - by Daniel Indart
  • Como Te Gusta - by J. A. Perez
  • El Besito - game version
.
Paradise Island
  • Cafecito Cubano - by Daniel Indart
  • Sera Lo Que Quiero - by Jesus A. Perez
  • Las Tres - by Jesus A. Perez
  • La Promesa - by Daniel Indart
  • Me Quede Esperando - by Lucho Campillo
  • Morena Cafe - by Lusho Campillo
  • A Comer - by Jesus A. Perez
  • Te Vi - by Jesus A. Perez
  • Ese Es Mi Amigo - by Oscar Luis Morejon
  • La Playa - Jesus A. Perez
  • Recuerdos - by Daniel Indart
  • Sol, Mar Y Arena - by Jesus A. Perez
    • Tropico's National Song (?)

.
If you wish for more information from the paper list (e.g. vocalist), please ask specifically about which songs.

I thought maybe Indart was still making the lyrics available. Well they are there, but you have to look carefully and they are not easy to copy.

http://www.indartmusic.com/lmsrecords/index.php

LMS Records is alive and well. It presents an interesting line of music.
Discover a broad selection of original Latin Music, written and performed by artists from every corner of Latin America.
It’s all here, from Mariachi, Salsa and Rap to Reggaeton, Hip-Hop, Cumbia and much more.

So when Haemimont talks to Daniel Indart, they are not dealing with a starving artist.

I still nominate "Sun, sea and sand" for the Tropican National Song! To Hades with military marches and religious anthems, who has time for them and the dictator's latest whim when the sun is out and the surf is up?

Part of the lyrics in English:
Palms, sun, sea and sand
And my dark Guajira girl
Palms, sun, sea and sand
And my dark Guajira girl
I have a love, Oh God
For the land were I was born, oh God

From a version of the soundtrack that I downloaded:

XDAT07.mp3 is labeled as "Buenos Noches" by Daniel Indart
XDAT13.mp3 is labeled as "La Fiesta" by Daniel Indart
XDAT17.mp3 is labeled as "En La Palma De Tu Mano" by Daniel Indart
Xdat19.mp3 is labeled as "Vamos Gringo" by Daniel Indart
Xdat22.mp3 is labeled as "Bahia Blanca" by Daniel Indart

Couldn't figure out the rest. It might be worth noting that Last.fm has both the Tropico and Tropico Paradise Island soundtracks listed (and online to listen to), so it's possible to go through those and double-check the track names with how they sound:

XDAT07.mp3 is labeled as "Buenos Noches" by Daniel Indart - Weeds likes very much
XDAT13.mp3 is labeled as "La Fiesta" by Daniel Indart
XDAT17.mp3 is labeled as "En La Palma De Tu Mano" by Daniel Indart
Xdat19.mp3 is labeled as "Vamos Gringo" by Daniel Indart
Xdat22.mp3 is labeled as "Bahia Blanca" by Daniel Indart - Weeds likes ...

O.K. That identifies the first five of darthbubbas "unknowns".

That leaves:
Xdat26.mp3
Xdat27.mp3
Xdat28.mp3
Xdat31.mp3

Shuckey dern -- guess I have to go to pencil & paper to match with my contribution. Be back sometime.

Okay, as far as a can tell, there are five duplicated songs in the xdt format.  As Rich said, the duplicates are specifically tracks with and without the words.

As far as my observation goes, the repeated tracks are:

1.  Xdat11 (words and music) and xdat14 (music only)
2.  Xdat24 (words and music) and xdat25 (music only)
3.  Xdat34 (words and Music) and xdat18 (music only)
4.  Xdat35 (words and music) and xdat 36 (music only)
5.  Xdat38 (words and music) and xdat39 (music only)
