How do you choose the money/lumber and the captives/pirates you start with when making your own scenario?

Thanks Smiley

Sailing the wide accountancy

Haven't done a scenario in a while, so anybody who REALLY knows what they're doing, corect me if I'm wrong.  Grin

Each scenario has two files, the map file and the script file. Sorry, I don't know the extension names off the top of my head, but the script file is the one that doesn't look like garbage when you open it with Notepad.  Wink

The map file gives the initial location of buildings and such, and the script file specifies things like workers, pirates, ships, etc.

I would suggest using one of the script files from an existing scenario as a template for your new scenario. Make a copy, and do all your work on the copy, to avoid corrupting the original script file.

EDIT: Finally got a chance to check this out on my home PC. Look in the "maps" folder. The script files have the extension ".txt", and the map files have the extension ".{}".

It's fun to charter an accountant
And sail the wide accountancy,
To find, explore the funds offshore
And skirt the shoals of bankruptcy!

It can be manly in insurance.
We'll up your premium semi-annually.
It's all tax deductible.
We're fairly incorruptible,
We're sailing on the wide accountancy!

If you go to your Tropico maps folder and open it, you will find a number of different files, some .txt (open with notepad), some with {} ( these are your actual maps, generated through the in-game editor) The maps file is located in the Tropico 2 folder that appears in your hard drive after you install your game-don't confuse it with what you can explore on the actual disc in your drive, as some people (ahem  Embarrassed) have mistakenly done. The .txt files include DOCUMENT, T2games and several variables of a .txt nature. Open the ones that are NOT specifically labeled as a scenario text and you will find what you are looking for. If you play a given scenario and note the information that you want, you can then quit the game and access the given scenario .txt file for examples that allow you to ID strings that assign the info you are looking to put into your own file. Remember to look at ALL the .txt files, because the information is spread out amongst several that have different, though sometimes similar, names. If the heading advises you not to change it, you can copy it, change the name of the copy by adding a number or letter, and then change the copy, writing in the new name for access in your actual created file. I find it all to be as confusing as a football bat. The prospect of actually understanding it one day is invigorating, although I can easily sense that it will be a time vacuum when it comes to learning it to a proficient lvl. Wink  Good luck. Grin
