Are you allowed to either edit crops or to make them a new crop?

For example, I have thought about creating a scenario where you are supposed to stop illegal drugs, but secretly engage in actually selling illegal drugs, like, say, cocaine. I could just claim "coffee" is really the illegal drug cocaine within the code and create events relating to that, but since you can 'can' coffee, and Trade Delegations to the US and Soviet Union could increase the export price of coffee...so that isn't exactly a good idea.

I would like if there is something more preferable, like creating another Crop similar to Coffee that could act as an illegal drug.

Anyway, any tips would be preferable. It's best to know what limitations I have to work with.

Only in the most marginal way and only with a lot of work.

Cafe Dave created a "mod" scenario Tropikos Mediterranean: My Big Fat Greek Island.

I believe he worked with a hex editor to locate and change the names of the crops/products. The visuals and other treatment in the game did NOT change. I don't recall the specifics, but - in effect - coffee became olives and sugar cane became grapes -- or whatever.

Dave worked with the permission of Phil Steinmeyer.

T1 is not "abandon ware" because Take2 still asserts its ownership -- as in its arrangement with kalypso to publish T3.

Actually, that's good to know. I'm only interested in changing the name, not the visuals.

A hex editor on the other hand, would seem to apply the changes to all parts of the game, not just the scenario, huh? And if it does take a lot of work, I could just have "coffee" be the new slang word for "coca".

Now that you mention it, I think so. I vaguely something about that; but I was not much interested in the concept or the scenarios.

CORRECTION: Tropikos Mediterranean: My Big Fat Greek Island is discussed in a sticky thread on this board. It required running a different EXE file.

Yeah, it would make sense. Hex editing wouldn't work.

By the way, is there any script that can be used to increase crime in locations where Coffee Farms are produced?

Check the correction in my previous post.

It's important to read the whole "readme" available in the first post in the Tropikos Mediterranean: My Big Fat Greek Island sticky thread at the top of this board.

... By the way, is there any script that can be used to increase crime in locations where Coffee Farms are produced?

The short answer is NO.

Crime in Tropico (T1) is entirely a building effect radiated from some buildings1. The intensity of the effect and the distance it is radiated are set by codes which are a part of the building code structure.

Of course, those codes can be changed with some ease - BUT all farms would be changed since the codes are not option specific.

1 The units may also radiate the same types of effects as buildings; however, that feature is very poorly understood. It doesn't relate to your question.

Yeah, I took a look at the Hex Files before you posted, and just realized that Farms are considered general. I didn't see your edit though until recently, but yeah, downloading the Tropikos mod is necessary to do something like this.

I need to create a script where crime gets radiated at the place where the Crop actually get turned into Cocaine. For example, I could change the script so that "Coffee" gets 'refined' at the "Cannery"...but that will affect all goods produced at the Cannery.

So, I need to think about what other 'crop' that can be 'refined' into Cocaine.
