I was playing a  scenerio  where my island got hit by a storm and wiped out some of the buildings on the island. durning the storm the display on the screen zoomed back and told me that all I could was to sit and watch. After the some of the buildings on the island got wiped out. I can't find which one it was, but I would like to include it in a  scenerio  I am trying to write. can anyone tell me how to make this happen!

Thanks in advance !  Huh

Hi bob!  Unfortunately, you cannot script a hurricane to happen as it does in the case of a random event.  The only random event you can program is the Red Tide one that kills all fishing around the island.  You can set random events frequency though, so that even if the player has them turned off, they are more likely to happen.  You can also simulate a hurricane with the Bldg Collapse event, but it won't have the cloud effects and only affect buildings that are selected by looping through all buildings.

Hope that helps!

This is an interesting, though short, exchange that provides a good illustration of the limitations of the scripting language in T1, and how early they were known.

CafeDave points out that the "In-Program" Random Events are very different in scope and effect from "work-around" substitutes using scripted events.

The term "random events" tends to be murky because scriptors were doing events that had randomized times of occurance before the Paradise Island expansion introduced the "In-Program" Random Events. The two kinds of events have no particular connection.

... MadamPresident:  Yes, it is a pretty darn tricky editor, isn't it?  We've had fun with it ourselves.  What we'd like to do is write up a more extensive set of documentation for it.  The scripting language is powerful if you know how to use it, but gaining that knowledge sure can be a challenge!
