Aaaaaarrrrgghhh!!

« on: 02/13/02 at 11:28 PM »

I'm having some trouble attracting Spring Breakers, and ONLY Spring Breakers.  Seems like too many other tourist types are staying in my cheap hotels!

Seems like the Breakers prefer to hang on beaches, though I found a few in the pub and movie theatre.

Can someone categorize the tourist object according to class appeal?

Thanks,

baccus

Hmmm...  beaches... you mean they wouldn't prefer to hang around the nature preserve or the archaelogical dig?

I just played the spring breaker scenario...  made a fortune in tourism but couldn't attract enough of the spring breakers myself.

Maybe I should have thought more about the beaches...  You mean young people would actually LIKE to spend time hanging around other scantily clad young people on the beach???

Makes sense. Gonna try this one again with more beach sites.  I think you are on to something there.

That Spring Break scenario took me a couple of tries, but I beat it by building about six cheap motels, one hotel, and keeping the airport going (spring breakers generally arrive by coach flight service).
I also had two beach sites, one outlook, one duty free shop, a pool and a couple of pubs. The Spring Break and Mardi Gras edicts seemed to do the trick once everything was rolling. Actually made a ton of money, more than 200k in the bank when I hit the objectives.

There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

The Spring Break scenario is definitely not easy. Tried 3 times and fell short of attracting 40 party animals simultaneously on all three attempts. Most I had at one time was 21 spbrkrs. At the end of my last game, I had 4 cheap hotels, one hotel, 5 pubs, 4 cabarets, 3 beach sites, one each of a marina, tennis court, movie theatre, spa, souvenir shop, duty free shop etc as well as two partially staffed police stations. I also enacted the spring break promo almost every 3 years, but  it  ???did not have much an effect. I guess it's back to the drawing board. Also, how does one get hotel quality ratings above 75 % as most of cheap hotels did not rate more than 55% in quality.

Huh

The first time, I also tried the marinas and tennis courts, but the spring breakers are cheap little punks and don't seem to care about that. They do seem to enjoy the spa and pool, though, as well as the beach sites. The hotel quality doesn't seem to matter much to them, either. I set the rates manually down to about ten bucks a room.
Keeping both pilots employed is another key. It's supposed to be an easy scenario, but I had more trouble with that one than some of the moderate or hard ones in PI.

Played Spring Breakers Game again with no success. This scenario is a tough to beat. This time I had 6 cheap hotels and 1 deluxe hotel with 2 cabarets and 4 pubs, 5 beach  sites, 2 outlooks, 2 pools, one nightclub and an assortment of other tourist attractions. Enacted tourism ad campaign, 2-3 times as well as springbreakers promo numerous times. Also used headliner edict twice. I generated over 245,000 in tourism profits but the most spers I had at any one time was 25. The tourism areas were fairly well policed if that it is a factor. This is really getting frustrating, I am about to quit PI for awhile. Any more tips or strategies to beat this scenario?Huh? Angry Angry

Yeah, the $$$ for the victory conditions is no problem, it's just getting them to the island ...

I don't know, I had a very similar setup to yours (bustamente, I mean) when I finally beat it. I enacted a Mardi Gras and the Spring Break edict at the same time, finally it jumped over the necessary number.

A hard little nut, no? I thought it was "easy" but that didn't prove to be the case...

The main reason, why i won the scenario was the mini golf. It's always full of them.

The duty free shop sells booze. Cheap booze. You can set it to "legal limit" or "unlimited sales." I haven't gotten any spring breakers to riot yet, although I've certainly tried to get them drunk enough ....

Hi all!!

Thnaks for all the tips in this thread but I've tride THEM ALL WITHOUT SUCCESS!!!  Cry Huh Cry
(How did you guys do it?? Huh?? )

PLEASE HELP!!!  I'm desperate!!!

I've tryed the Spring Breakdown senario atleast 30+ TIMES with the same results.  Cry Undecided Angry  (10 times at least after reading this thread. Undecided Embarrassed)

How did you get the money to build all those buildings Huh When I have built the same amount of buildings as you guys, 20-25 years has passed!!! And then I only have about 5 years to make 120,000+ $$$ and get 30+ Sprimg Breakers to the island!
THATS IMPOSSIBLE!!!
(And to top it all of you had enough money for "advertisments" to, HOW Huh Huh)

I start the scenario by converting 3 farms to tobacco-farms, build 2-3 cheap hotells, 4-5 beach-sites, 4-5 bars, 2 cheep condos, 3 duty-free shops plus some other tourist atractions.
After 4-6 years the money starts rolling in and I continue improving things for the tourists.
Then (year 8-10 )I start improving things for the population so that they will work and vote for me!
But then things starts to go out the window, I'm constantly broke, have no skilled workers and a happiness raiting around 40%!
And that continues throughout the scenario.

The best I've been able to acheve is 80k-90k in profits and 25 Spring Breakers.

What am I doing wrong Huh PLEASE HELP! Undecided

Set up your island so you can issue Mardi Gras/ Headliner/Spring Break Package/Tourism Ad Campaign all at the same time. You may need to do this more than once.

Also cut rate prices in your hotels and tourist attractions to the lowest price.

Try this in the last decade or when you've already accomplished the money objectives.

What a gang of rich kids who don't have to worry about the loans they have to takeout to pay to go to college. Oh! The good old days of the late 20th century. Here's a cross-reference to the tourism thread:
http://www.the-nextlevel.com/tropico/cafe/index.php?topic=10971.25

One of the things to consider is the general opinion of the developers about the attitudes of the "Spring Breaker" class of tourist as they relate to the Tropico Game World, don't you suppose?

All tourists have a set of desires to satisfy at accommodation buildings. They come in nine flavors:

Banking
Bordello - (Cabaret = ladies of pleasure for males only.)
Drinking
Eating Out
Gambling
Relaxation
Shopping - (Suspected to be the counterpart for females of the "Bordello" desire.)
Sightseeing
Sporting Event

Come on players! It's about doing the things you can't do back on the campus -- getting really drunk; getting laid (sorry females); Shopping your heart out for the best T-shirt to show your boobs back home (since you can't get laid here)(sorry males); flopping in absolute exhaustion on the beach or by the pool (do you suppose that cute attendant at the spa could satisfy me "that way" with a massage??). The Spa and Mini Golf do deal in "relaxation" - just set them at a cheap fee and "no dress code."

Otherwise, there is some experience to indicate that the rioting Spring Breakers pick on sightseeing and eating out buildings to destroy. The accommodations are simply a place to flop, not to live in style. Coming on the cheap airplane is simply a matter of custom; build a haven for debauchery and they will come and love your island. Pay no attention to the riots.

BTW-- don't make them walk a lot. Cluster everything up as close together as you can.
