(Edit by RFNagel: Folks, I merged two threads that were over on the Test Board, "test" and "[img] test", as they had a lot of useful info in them dealing with linking to images and files on other Internet servers. I also moved the merged thread here so that it doesn't get deleted or spooled from the Test Board, as well as deleting several message within the two threads to clean up the final merged thread a bit.)

I think what 'Weeds' is trying to tell you is that you cannot link to a hard-drive on a PC from anywhere other than that PC. Remote links to an address on a PC just don't work.

Exactly -:) If one could link directly to their PCs via the afore mentioned method, others could feesibly have full access to all of the files on your PC <shudder>. Although, I *do* know ways to do that, but that's another topic alltogether (that I will not discuss with anyone <LOL>!) <G> -:)

P.S. Capitaligous, you have to actually _upload_ your image or file to a server on the Internet (such as your personal web space provided by your ISP), and then link to that file on that specific online server. Example: All of the files and directories in the little niche I like to refer to as "¥Weeds¥ File Archives" <BG> -> http://www.cmoo.com/~snor/weeds . I can link to anything that I've uploaded there (which is one of the servers that I have unlimited access to), but anything that is strictly on *MY* PC cannot be linked to. Now, to totally confuse the issue, if one is on a static IP via their ISP, one can run an FTP or web server of sorts, and then link to a file directly to thir hard drive using their IP address. This is how all of my older stuff was linked to ages ago (anyone remember http://66.14.180.209/Weeds or http://ftp://66.14.180.209/Weeds from eons ago <G>?). My friend setup a small LAN in his house and paid extra for his ISP in order to have a static IP address. He then used Mickey$oft FTP Server to set up an FTP/HTTP server using one of the PCs connected to his home LAN. All access for folks surfing that site went through his ISP, through the firewall of his LAN, and then finally to the single PC that was running the FTP/HTTP server. This could also work if one is on a dynamic IP address (how all dialup users are, as well as most broadband - if you don't pay extra for a static IP), BUT... the IP address would change each time that you log on (or start Windows), making it impractical to use for web space and to link files and images from. Anyhow, to recap: This *works* -> http://www.cmoo.com/~snor/weeds/Tropico/tropico_bunkhouses.jpgThis *DOES NOT* work -> c:/¥Weeds¥ Downloads/FTP_CD/CMOO/weeds/Tropico/tropico_bunkhouses.jpg or http://c:/¥Weeds¥ Downloads/FTP_CD/CMOO/weeds/Tropico/tropico_bunkhouses.jpgSee? -:)

ok, fine, explain? How much explanation is needed to show textually that purple and violet are not the same color? They just are not. Perhaps you could explain how they are the same?

Thanks, I appreciate that even though I'm not sure what RGB values are. The colors on computers can be defined by numbers/text, but in the pre-computer world - just the name meant something. Again, thanks for the info.

RGB values is computer talk for Red, Green, and Blue numbers/codes. On a PC any one of 16 million colors can be defined by it's RGB value, a mix of red/green/blue. The numbers are in decimal, and go from 0-255 (256 possible values for each of them).
Most paint programs (such as Paint Shop Pro) have an editable palette where you can select a color (which shows it's RGB values), or simply type the numbers in by hand. I was gonna attach a screenie to my previous post of the colors as shown in the palette selection window, but the board/server is still having problems with file attachments -:(

Except what you are calling Pink is more of a lilac. Pink should be 255,192,192 FFC0C0 PINK or 255,128,128 FF8080 PINK
(Yeah, 128 is 80, not A0 as you said a few posts ago)

Yes, you are correct. I must have messed up in my previous post <G>. Looks to me like that 255/192/192 is pretty close to pink, where the 255/128/128 is a bit too redish looking. P.S. Off-topic, but (for those who are familar with Coleman lanterns and stoves), here is my interpretation of COLEMAN GREEN <LOL>!

<LOL>! I should have known better than to question you, Brf! I normally use an old version of Netscape with images disabled, as well as the Cafe's "Simplicity" them with sigs and avatars disabled.
After resurfing to this thread using MSIE (to ensure that my Coleman green displayed properly in my post above), I quickly realized what you're avatar is... you indeed know more about pink than I <LOL>! -:)

P.S. @All, Here's a nice freeware color picking utility ("Pixie"), displays the RGB codes, HTML hex codes, as well as several other formats of any color displayed on your Windows desktop. Small, free, and a clean install -:) -> http://www.nattyware.com/pixie.html

Actually, I have my own freeware color utility written by myself. Unfortunately, it is written in VBScript, rather than Javascript, so it will not run in Netscape or Mozilla. It can be found on my stuff page: http://home.insightbb.com/~b.fermanich/page2.htm

Works fine in MSIE 5.0 -:)
P.S. The Pixie utily allows you to pick any color that's currently displayed on your Windows desktop via an eyedropper type of tool (i.e. a picture in a paint or viewer program, your wallpaper, etc...).
