Welcome everyone to the year of Tropico! Sorry for the lack of updates, but I've been intensely concentrating on my Canadian Pacific map for RRT2. Now it's done and you can get it at The RIP Track!

Thanks to everyone who participated in the Games You Play mini-poll. I'm glad to see that RRT2 is still tops with 16% of the vote, but it was a close contest. See the polls archive for the results. And vote in this month's poll on Tropico features. Ideas for future polls are welcome! Just send an email or post on the forum in the Cafe Tropico category.

And if you haven't visited the forum for a while, you've missed a lot! Several PopTop employee's have been sighted recently and are actually fighting over giving out information on Tropico. Catch the latest scoop at the world's most active Tropico forum, the Cafe Tropico Multi-Site Forum!

Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Sorry there hasn't been too much activity here lately, but I've been working on some RRT2 maps. Go to the RIP Track to check out my special Christmas maps!

And I have a Christmas present for Tropico fans also. As promised at the Discussion Board, I have now uploaded some pcx files that hopefully can be used to create your own maps in Tropico. Go to the Mapmaker's Table to see and download them.

And don't forget to keep in touch over the holidays at the Discussion Board.

Here's some exciting news! You can now chat by voice or text in real-time through the Real-Time Voice and Text Chat at the Cafe Tropico Bulletin Board. Just go to the board and click the link to get going. While you're there, check out the board and topics going on and post a message.

You can also chat the old-fashioned way via the Bravenet chat link on this page. Now all you need is someone to chat with!

Well, the election is over in Canada, and we have a winner! Third term in a row for Jean Chretien. (How much longer to catch Castro?) But the real winner according to the Cafe Mini-Poll is William Shatner, with 42% of the popular vote. Let's hear it for a true Canadian who can really go where no one has gone before.

November 25, 2000

Welcome to my revamped front page, which I hope will be faster loading and easier to use! This site now uses CSS, SSI, CGI, JAVA and HTML! Let me know how you like it either at the Cafe Bulletin Board or by email. Thanks!

Well, the election results have been counted and recounted, and it's still a dead heat between Al and George with 6 votes each. But Bugs still holds the lead with 8 votes, so he gets the ticket to the Oval Office! If I had known Florida would have such an important role, I would have chosen Mickey Mouse instead, but there you go.

Now that the US election is over, it's time to pick the Prime Minister of Canada. Election day is Nov. 27, 2000. Cast your vote at the mini poll now!

Back on Tropico, the RR Express chat summary is at Railroad Express Chat. The transcript of the chat is at Railroad Express

November 9, 2000

No more election news, but looks like Bugs is slowly losing ground. Cast your vote before its too late.

The long-awaited links page is finally functional. Have a look and surf to all the great Tropico sites out there.

And speaking of Tropico, there will be a combined Tropico/RRT2 chat at Railroad Express this Saturday, Nov. 11. Times are:
9PM - 10PM BST (UK GMT)
3PM - 4PM CST (USA)
10PM -11PM ECT (EURO)

The address of the chat room is: http://www.gamepost.com/~express/chat/

Well, the election is over, but they're still counting the votes as I write this. But there is a clear winner here at the Cafe. The new president of the U.S. is... Bugs Bunny, with 60% of the popular vote. But just because the election is over, doesn't mean you can't still pick your favorite dictator, er.. president. Cast your vote now in the mini poll.

November 7, 2000

Election Day in the USA! Cast your vote right here in the mini poll.

While you're here, check out the new screen shots page. And don't forget to visit the Cafe Tropico Bulletin Board for the latest talk about Tropico and Railroad Tycoon II!

News from October, 2000

October 14, 2000

Announcing the Grand Opening of Cafe Tropico! Thanks for stopping in! Coffee and donuts are on the house as you check out some of these great features:

  • The News Stand - Where you can read the latest news, magazine reviews and articles about Tropico. There is also general Caribbean news page for the latest headlines from the tropics.
  • The Tropico Room - Information about the game of Tropico, including game concepts, characters and screen shots.
  • The Player's Lounge - The place to hang out for the latest game tips, strategy, scenario creation and just to chat. The key feature of the lounge is the discussion forum powered by an exciting new bulletin board called YaBB for Yet Another Bulletin Board. Don't let the modest name fool you. It has some very powerful and interesting features that I'm sure you'll enjoy.
  • The Cyber Terminal - Your connection to the outside world for links, patches, demos and user-made scenarios.

The Cafe is still under construction at this moment, so not all of these features are fully functional now but more will be added as the game develops and time permits.
