The Free Gay Papa campaign was a political movement to pressure administration into un-banning ElCapitan from his controversial month-long ban in January 2008. At it's peek, it consisted of thirteen members, beginning with the final addition of Netwurked on January 8 until portnoyd's departure on January 10. The six day campaign ultimately ended in victory when ElCapitan was un-banned on his birthday, January 11. The success of the union marks an important political milestone, and to this date, remains the most successful movement in forum history.

The Case
On New Years Eve, 2007, an unpopular new member began posting and garnered much heat. The trolling and shenanigans that followed more than likely spurred the creation of SuperTurtle on January 3 [1], a poster that appeared to compete for flames and was later discovered to be a joke account; a forum disruption that board leader Nick apparently hates [2][3].
On the evening of January 4, SuperTurtle was revealed to be ElCapitan by Tommy Tallarico [4], a poster which some believe to be a joke account in his own right [5][6].
When ElCapitan surfaced to admit guilt [7], he was sentenced a 30 day ban by KOTP [8] from 1-4-2008 until 2-4-2008.
Immediately controversy erupted [9][10] from the sentence length and either the administrator from whom it was issued or the alleged dupe account from whom it was exposed.
The Protest
The protest was formally organized when on January 5, Bacon McShig created an avatar for the cause and immediately several jumped on board. This avatar would become the Official FGPC Av and an image to represent the union.
Doc Holliday joined late in the evening of the 5th and soon became the voice, issuing rep to those who flew the avatar and both organizing members and lobbing moderators through PMs. Soon several more members took up the FGPC Av and aired their voice.
With the union growing rapidly, yet no progress being made by administration for ElCapitan's release, Doc Holliday went to the drastic measure of a post fast until El Capitan's return [11]. This turned out to be a controversial move, when on January 9, Netwurked joined in and made the post fast public, a bold move on both parts[12].
Netwurked also contributed by creating a custom avatar on January 8, before his fast and on the 9th Nirvana followed suit creating variants of his own.
