There are two details to keep in mind when powering a G7400 console in the United States. First, European power plugs are physically shaped differently than American plugs. Second, Europe uses a different electrical standard than the U.S.: 220V rather than 120V. However, as the Jopac manual shows, some versions of the console will work from 110v to 240v. It is not known whether all G7400 consoles used the same power supply; some copies of the service manual indicate that it requires 220 VAC. Probably the best way to find out is to buy a physical plug adapter, which can be purchased for only a few dollars, then simply plug it in and see if it works. If it doesn't, you may need to purchase a voltage converter (which in most cases can double as a physical adapter). Luckily, quite a few American players have reported success with just an inexpensive physical adapter.

Physical Plug Adapters

Physical adapters are simple couplers, familiar to any traveler who has ever plugged in a device in a foreign land. They are easy to find online, for just a few dollars. Click here to search for "Euro electric adapter" on Amazon.com.

Power Converter

Voltage Converters

If your G7400 requires 220 VAC, you will need a voltage converter. Click here to purchase a converter that some American players have used with success. But a word of warning: one player used this converter and his G7400 blew a fuse, and would not power up afterward. Others have used it without difficulty.

Replacing the Power Supply

If you have no luck with adapters or converters, and have skill with electronics, you can replace the G7400's power supply. Use a U.S. power supply with 12V and 5V outputs. It's very important that the new supply is regulated! This solution requires that you remove the existing power supply. If the new power supply is small enough, you can place it inside the G7400. Otherwise you'll need to connect 3 wires – 12V, 5V and 0V. In this picture, you can see the G7400's three power supply connections at the right.
