Sid the Spellbinder

Overall Score

3.2

(Out of 5)
  • Gameplay: 3.2
  • Graphics: 2.7
  • Sound: 3.4
  • Voice: 4.9

This is an educational game for younger children, and as such I gave it higher ratings than I would have otherwise. As you can see, that didn't help much. In Sid the Spellbinder, the Voice asks you to spell some words, and you must do so correctly to earn ammunition. Then you use the ammunition in the game phase to shoot down Sid himself, who looks a lot like the Dratapillar from K.C.'s Krazy Chase!. Unfortunately, the shooting is little more than target practice -- and not particularly challenging or rewarding target practice at that. The Voice is required and is used well, but this cartridge doesn't otherwise make the grade because the reward you get for learning your spelling just isn't that fun -- even for younger kids.
