Forms 8815 (exclusion of bond interest), 8862 (intent to claim EIC after disallowance), and 8867 (preparer's EIC checklist) are all done so far today. The new 8867 adds another page of items to check off to verify that you have bent over backwards to ensure that the taxpayers claiming EIC aren't using false information in order to be eligible. I wonder how long it will take until the fingerprints of the taxpayers, qualifying children, and preparer are required to be submitted with the return. ...

Almost had Schedule EIC down at the end of the evening's work yesterday. It's rather simple, but there's a few text match scripts which I need to import from another form so that I can finalize it.

Very pleased with the songs that appeared in today's session. Many I haven't played in some time, or otherwise are songs which I more like than dislike. A new record or two would have been better, but such things are never guaranteed.

Family dinner today for observation of my birthday. It was the most convenient day for the other people to be around, one of whom has a birthday on this actual day. So that took up a lot of time.

While working on the 1040 Schedule C, I suddenly had half of the fields disappear. I have no idea what caused it and backing up several steps in the Undo chain didn't fix the problem. It is easy enough to fix the entire form at will so no work was lost, but it was still distressing to see ...

Made some decent progress for a good full day of actual work. Finished of Forms 2555, W2, 1099R, and 1040 Schedule B. Next up is the new Form 8938, which is straight reporting and doesn't appear to have any arithmetic to worry about or figures to transfer and convert from possible cent values to integers. I'm glad to see more forms appearing in the newer format. In a few years I foresee it all being in the current style which means that I won't have to do additional field tricks to add captions ...

So why is it that if you watch the commentary audio for the Fellowship of the Ring, you can't turn on the subtitles of the script to have on the screen? The wife wants to rewatch some of those now that she has Hobbit on the brain, and do so with the commentary for the sake of something different. I generally find movie commentaries to be endless vapid cocksucking and a waste of time, so I'm more interested in having the actual lines to read during the lulls when nothing interesting is being said. ...

I got a barb to 60. With a HF ring and a Cain's set, it didn't take long at all. A spot of snow came while I was outside on work. The temperature is still around the 35 degree range, so nothing is staying for long, which is fine with me. The only negative is that the snow tends to soak into clothing and gloves, so it's another new pair of shoes for me as I won't tolerate working in soaking feet while it's near freezing outside.

One of the not-fun things to try to edit in the new style IRS PDFs are tables, in that they handle like table objects in something like Microsoft Word or the like, which means that it becomes a pain in the ass in a hurry if you want to try to do things like merge or split columns or cells and such. I don't think LiveCycle permits the merge of single cells within a given column. Figuring out how to remove, edit, and replace a table took the majority of my time yesterday but I have it resolved now. ...

Oh blessed be, the 2012 1040 is up. Thankfully, the IRS has also brought this form into the present era of PDF design, which means that it will be much easier to modify as I need it to as well as consume much less space within revisions. The fact that I should never have to restart the form once I'm done modifying it the first time is one of the greatest aspects to the whole thing, not to mention that saving the document each time until then won't grind my machine to a halt. The highlights of today is that I obtained pizza for dinner and delivered a package of my uncle's gift, because it was forgotten to be picked up by my aunt in his absence after I brought it to the family gathering on christmas eve.

The original plan was to see The Hobbit tomorrow midday to catch a matinee time, but we had the time available for it tonight so we elected to see it sooner.
