I'm exercising and listening to NPR, and naturally the discussion of the day is related to MLK. I'm not sure if there wasn't a segment or program planned at a certain point, or if what I heard was part of a program, but eventually this stretch of audio came on which interspersed his speeches with various songs, among which were covers of All Along the Watchtower and Over the Rainbow. After a while, though, it went beyond that kind of selection to simply sourcing Lennon's "Imagine" outright in a spot, which made me groan, and then went on to other late 50s / early 60s doo-wop pop sounds which, I would guess, were supposed to evoke the sound of the era. Hearing all of this combined and in sequence, though, did little but to remove me from having any kind of reverence for the man's words and legacy and just left me irritated that they felt compelled to have me listen to music which I otherwise wouldn't want to hear for no other reason than that they felt it contributed to an MLK theme of some kind. Folks, I can cue up two separate YouTube videos - one of his speeches, and another of some Supremes music, and have them play simultaneously if I really felt the need to combine those two kinds of media. Perhaps they were trying to do something more lighthearted rather than give a background sound other than the typical gospel vocal standards, but given the choice between those two, I think the latter is more suitable and preferred. Spirituals behind MLK talking might be typical to the point of being trite, but at least it doesn't distract me from his message.

Songs. There might be two days of new songs to get through before being done with the new additions, as I'm just starting to hit the Japanese titles, and there's many of those. Otherwise, the favorable trends continue of most songs being playable and not awful, though a few of them were strong contenders for being Worst Of All Time out of this set. Testarossa is all over the place, and I have no idea what the hell is going on with テーレッテー新宿談.
