Christmas gifts in, Christmas cards out (and a few of those received too), cold temperatures in, snow out (and that all flips this coming weekend I guess), and so on. Nothing surprising there on any front.

Rather than try to continue playing Atelier Elie, I decided to start up a game of Black/Matrix +. I never finished this PS1 take of the game, and after hearing some of the soundtrack while on the job lately it compelled me to start that up while it's fresh in the mind. The very first battle took two attempts to clear, and the second of it had me milk the remaining enemy unit for a few turns by shooting it with arrows for one HP or two at a time. I was hoping that I could try to make it through one of these games without endless side grinding but I wonder how well I'll be able to do that. Still, it's quite remarkable how this game exists as "the same game" on three different platforms yet is subject to considerable change in each version. Meanwhile, my Japanese proficiency, such as it can be referred to as "proficiency", is at least at a level where I'm not getting stumped by every other kanji I see, and I do think I have a much more improved grasp of the dialogue as it rolls in. I just need to stop behaving as years before and blindly skip past things if I feel like I'm taking too long to read it.

Songs. At least today's home session felt good. Others were OK but today's felt better. Yet again, the arcade session was lousy. It feels like playing the game at afternoon hours is best, based on the scores for home play I've been recording here for the last few weeks, but it really does seem like the only way I can play the machine at the arcade without taking turns is to be there at the latest hours. I guess trying it that way can't have results be terribly worse than what they have been so far.
