Fuck 2017. Just getting that out now, because why not.

Anyway, here we are. I guess all I can reasonably hope for on a personal level is for things to continue into this year as they have proceeded in the past half. I'm still out of the house at least 65 hours per week, but I still think I'm in a better place now than any other time in this field beforehand. To think of what I'd even be saying now if I were with those people in the Zoo. Or even still with the Daily, for that matter. Honestly, I think the main thing that prevents me from voicing any kind of overt exuberance about this job is just knowing how sudden things can change on any given day, and the worry about how sustainable things will be in the future.

Elder niece is growing rapidly. The younger one still doesn't like facial hair. Perhaps I could stand to at least trim it down again, I haven't bothered to do so in a while.

In consistently listening to Old Time Radio segments this season has brought two revelations to me - one, that there's no shortage of adaptations of A Christmas Carol to be found out there; two, that the storytime quest for the "true uncapitalist meaning of Christmas" is something which existed long before the Charlie Brown cartoon. One radio segment of Ozzie & Harriet (before they were a TV show) had many similar beats to that cartoon and other segments that came before and since, replete with the bemoaning of excessive consumerism and the like. One thing that I find increasingly irritating with A Christmas Carol, and similarly with It's a Wonderful Life, is how the protagonist has a sequence where they are in a reality which they know is a fabrication of some kind, yet they spend their entire time within it ignoring the fact that they are in it. Scrooge is an old bastard, yet when he gets transported to the visions, his bastardry instantly goes away. George Bailey breaks down and wishes he wasn't born, then spends his entire time in the alternate reality of not being born by insisting that he was born. Well, to tie that subject together, at least I didn't have to hear that phone-in radio adaptation of the movie again this year.

The steam seems to be running out a bit at home sessions this week, at least as far as new records go. When the game asked me to Go Bezerk, I did not Go Bezerk. The weekly arcade trip didn't fare well either, as I felt rushed to go earlier in the day yet again, and yet again I couldn't arrive at a time where there wasn't at least one other player present. He was gracious enough to be playing Voltex more so than IIDX, so I didn't lose out a lot of time on it, but I think it still affected me in some way, or just at least exacerbated my temper at the moment. I did take the time to play a round at home later that day and found it to be better. When I play at home I usually skip songs which I know I've played recently, only I decided to let one roll this time and was rewarded with a new record on both attempts. That's interesting. I think it's just as well to end the week and year with a new entry.
