At work, there have been a few people who were forced to work an extra day during this week and only have one day off. I wasn't one of the chosen. I don't particularly look forward to having such a thing imposed on me, though I wonder if it will come to that point, given that my days off are during the week when work volume usually isn't very high and there are more people scheduled in general. I've thought about it before, and perhaps all the more so now, I should probably just stick with the schedule I have now and not particularly worry about getting a shift which gives me weekends off or the like.

The project moves along. Getting a few pieces in line turned out to be rather easy.

Songs report ties into a social obligation I volunteered to do, in that I decided to try to have my niece (who will be turning 4 in a few weeks) come with on the arcade trip with me and my wife. It did turn out to be a good decision for both of us to go in light of the day's events (at least in terms of handling bathroom visits), and fortunately my niece turned out to be very receptive of being there. When coming in from the secondary entrance, the first large machine in view is Space Invaders Extreme, and without hesitation she ran to it and sat down wanting to play. She was enthusiastic to try everything, and I'm very grateful that she was receptive of it all. However, I did make a point to show her IIDX, and that didn't seem to go over as well. After each song she had an expression on her face like that of being weighed down. Almost like depressed. It wasn't quite what I was expecting, either in terms of a positive or negative reaction. I didn't get a chance to play many songs after that point, and it's just as well because of how poorly I did on most of them. Home sessions still feel rather strong.

On the subject of being with my niece and her birthday incoming, one thing we did was go to a novelty store that has a bunch of Asian entertainment artifacts, such as figurines, pens, stationery, keychains, and the like from various anime shows and such. I indulged her to go on a shopping spree and I cut her off at a point which turned out to have a total cost of $70. It doesn't take much. One item she wanted was a wallet from the show Fairy Tale. I made a point to ask her that she really wanted a wallet. Yes. To do what with it? Put money in it. Whose money? Mine. Well, OK then. Here's hoping she doesn't lose it in the future and looks back on it in a few decades with a smile.
