I wrote about my starting adventures in Sonic 2006 yesterday. At the end of last night, I put the disc back into the case and assumed the next person to feel it's wrath would be Mzo.
Today, my curiosity got the better of me. "How much worse can this actually get?" I kept thinking. "I'm already 30% in! How long could it take to wrap this up!?" also crept into my head.
Once again, I'll let my tweets do most of the talking...
Oh, Blaze, how did you get roped into terrible 2006 Sonic? You deserve better. What's great about 2006 Sonic is, as soon as i think it can't get any worse, "SURPRISE!" it gets worse! As soon as i start thinking I've been too hard on 2006 Sonic it does something to piss me off again. The credits song for 2006 Sonic is an R&B remix of Sonic 2's ending music!? WTF?!Took me a minute or two to realize it, too.And also a chat log with Mzo...Sonic 2's ending:
Sonic 2006's:
It's like this game just rubbed salt in my wound.
Tomorrow I'm going to trudge forth and get started on Silver's story. If the sampling of Silver in Sonic's game is any indication on how Silver's portion should play out, well, it should at least be better than Sonic's.Geen: I just finished Sonic's story.
Mzo: in 2k6?
Geen: Yes.
Geen: I hate it so much, but I want to keep playing it to see if I can hate it any more.
Mzo: lol
Mzo: I loved that video
Geen: Haha
Mzo: you were cracking up from the loading
Geen: There is so much!
Geen: I installed it today, to see if it would help with all the loading. It does not.
Geen: Dear god it doesn't help at all!
Mzo: ugh
Sonic, with his wild camera and unpredictable homing attack, was a game that I felt no trust in. I was more afraid to jump towards a bonus item because I didn't believe I would be able to depend on the game to not screw me over for doing so. Too many times I would jump towards a grind rail and it would send me flying in the wrong direction or have the homing attack ignore the object I was jumping towards and instead swoosh me into the distance. And the auto-running segments... sweet jesus. No sense of distance and, my personal favorite, the game auto-running Sonic on a wall and no direction on the control stick seems to do anything. Left and right no longer make Sonic respond, but a tricky up-left and down-right seem to kind of work. Sometimes.
Anyway, here is my reward for god-knows how many hours of yelling at the TV and laughing at how bad sections are:
I have no intention of 1000/1000'ing this, but I will make it through the three main stories and the final conclusion story, as long as the game doesn't kill me first.
