Sonic Adventure

Wow this games has been out awhile but I just finished 100 percent the 6 charcaters stories. There is alot left to do.

Big had to be one of the worst character designs ever and his levels were painful to play. Fishing for 20 minutes while Froggy swims past your lure was not fun.

Yes the game also was full of some nasty glitches where my charcters got stuck on a ledge. I really liked Sonic's story the best and the Egg Viper battle.

Never tried the Chao simulator as the VMU batteries don't last that long.

Still a pretty fun game.

Anyone ever get all the Emblems?

I returned it the day I got it.

Just not for me, alot of other people like it though

It's my second favorite 3d mascot-platformer after Super Mario 64.

The Sonic and Tails levels are awesome but I don't care for the other characters at all. And the NiGHTS pinball stuff is definitely a tease, making me crave a new NiGHTS game.

Overall, it's an excellent game.

It's too bad the sequel took my complaints about the first game and made the problem worse.

It was a good attempt at a 3D Sonic, I think. It might be a little hard to go back to today, though, after having enjoyed the (mostly) superior Sonic Adventure 2.

Both have great music.

Edit: It's always weird just how much people disagree on these two games.

I liked the game a lot more once I had completed it and had a veritable buffet of levels to play at my leisure. I can pick the game up and play the Sonic and Tails levels over and over and over again and have a blast. Most of the others I never touched again after finishing it, and probably never will.

I didn't like the Adventure element at all.

I can't even remember Sonic Adventure for Sonic Adventure 2 traumatized me for life (A true contender for Bubsy 3-D if there ever was one). I remember being dazzled by Sonic Adventure, and then being disapointed when it came time to play as Big the Cat and Amy Rose. The first Sonic level almost makes up for it...damn that level was cool. So cool that I bought the soundtrack for the game @__@ I wouldn't mind playing through it again. The Sonic levels were awesome.

The first level was the one with the killer whale chasing you down the dock right? I loved that level, but after that, it just didn't click with me.

Ah, Sonic Adventure, without a doubt my favorite Sonic game.

The advent of the over world was what made this game so great, I loved exploring all the locales that came up. I only wish the actual levels were structured like that. And it was great how you got to choose who you could play as from the start, unlike in SA2. And the music was wonderful, cheesy lyrics and all. The Chao stuff was fun too. I had a great time working on these little guys, making my NiGHTS chao look just right, etc. There were a few hidden chaos one could acquire, as long as he new the proper combination of animals. A concept pretty much ruined in SA2.

But the best thing about this game, and what will forever put it above and beyond it’s sequel was the game’s online component. By connecting to the game’s home page, you were given access to downloadable events (you could get a Christmas Tree for Station Square that sang the NiGHTS end theme!) and mini-games like the infamous AT&T Speed High Way Challenge, and you could replace the announcer’s voice on the main menu with one of the main character’s voice. There was also a Chao daycare center, where people could post their chaos online for all the world to see, and download, if they so desired. The SA homepage was also my first ever foray into the world of online message boards and chat rooms, and it helped shape the way I act online (i.e don't be an ass). Ah, good times.

But this pales in comparison to the #1 reason why everyone flocked in droves to the SA Home Page: The World Rankings. A level would be chosen, and it was up to you get the lowest time, or catch the biggest fish, whatever. The first event was a time trial on Emerald Coast . Sega announced the event like a month in advance, which gave us plenty of time to prefect our runs. People in the chat room and message boards would share tips and secrets as to how to shave that extra second (Scale up the mountain, jump over the loop, etc), there were even Chao Race rankings. It was an exciting time to own a Dreamcast.

As great as it was, of course it had it’s downsides, for one, the Knuckles challenge was a joke, and the Chao Black Market for example. Supposedly, the first issue of ODCM said that Sega was making a Black Market for chaos, in which you could use the emblems you found in the game to purchase rare and exotic chaos online. Well, Sega dangled this in front of our faces like carrot in front of a horse, because they promised it was coming soon, but it never did. But they did make it for SA2, but it was pretty under whelming (Along with the rest of SA2’s online stuff). Oh well, once that one guy developed a VMU chao editor, all that went out the window anyway. Along with this, cheaters also tainted the world rankings. Apparently, there was a third party controller that had odd analog output values, which allowed you to jump farther than normal, allowing people to shave those precious seconds off there scores, and when Game Sharks came out, well, you can believe that seeing people with 00:00:00 times kind of took the fun out of it.

Oh well, it was a blast while it lasted.


And another thing, that NiGHTS pinball has got to be one of the biggest cock teases in the history of video gaming.


It’s a shame they had to mess around with just about everything that made this game so great in SA2.

This is true.

The game was pretty good. I never bought i though, just beat it with all the characters but never got all the emblems, kind of got old for me after a while, but I could always play the first level.
