Space Fishing!
I was browsing through my issues of EGM ( the one with GTA VC on the cover) and noticed a neat looking game in import pick of the month. I know fishing games seem rather boring, but this game actually looked pretty cool. It has cartoony graphics and all the fishing takes place on other planets in space, hence the name. There was one pic of it and it had this massve fish hooked t a sort of electrical line. It looked kind of neat and I was just wondering if this was ever coming stateside, or if any of you die hard Space Fishing fans had played it. Post impressions if you have.

It's supposed to be fun. We haven't gotten a chance to open one up and try it yet, but we did send one off to Penny Arcade so they should have impressions on it next week. Also I do believe that Mr_Furious has a copy, so we can see what he thinks about it.

Sweet, it looks very interesting and I would love a US release of this.

I have Space Fisherman and I think it'll never see our shores. You'll have to import it but it's only $49 so it's quite affordable.
Impressions: It's yet another bizarre game that only Japan would crank out. You're a space fisherman (duh) that travels throughout space fishing at various water holes. The art design looks Spumco inspired which isn't a bad thing. The actual gameplay is quite different than other fishing games I've played. You press X to cast your reel once you've found the spot you wish to fish at. You can precisely aim your shot using the left analog stick to navigate the cursor that floats above the water. Once cast, a "radar-like" screen displays showing your bait in a top down view). there are little white dots that represent various fish that can be caught. Using the left analog stick you can actually swim your bait around the radar screen. On screen arrows display to show how you fill the bait's bar using the analog stick (various motions) and once full, certain white dots will "ping". If you're close enough to one of the dots when it pings you can press the X button to snag a fish. If successful, the radar screen goes away and the fish you've hooked will come flying out of the water. This is where you can start reeling in your catch. Using the right analog stick you must do 360 motions ro reel in the line. Arrows display above center that tell you what direction to push the left analog (which is your pole). There's a display on the right side of the screen that shows the relative distance your fish is from being fully reeled in. Once you've successfully reeled in the fish, quickly tap the X button to complete the catch. It's a pretty fun and whacky looking game that I found entertaining. You've got different types of fish to catch and the unique part is the fish you catch can be used as bait for the larger fish. When viewing your tackle box for bait, there are a LOT of spots for fish so the variety looks rather impressive.
I hope this helps out in some way.

Sounds like a good game. Thanks for the impressions Mr_Furious. I'm not much of a fishing fan, but with the crazy theme of the game, I think I'd enjoy it. Hopefully it will still be stocked at one of the online retailers in January because I am absolutely broke until then.
