Metroid Prime

It just got a 9.8 on IGN, so I guess it's time to christen an official thread for this mofo. If there's already an official thread disregard this one, I didn't find one in a search. Anyway, this game is looking really good imo, the graphics/atmosphere/sound look excellent. I don't know if I'm going to dig the control though, apparently you can't aim and shoot at the same time... that doesn't sound so hot. The platforming aspects don't sound too great either, but other than that, the game sounds great.

Well, Isn't early for the official thread yet? The game is not coming for another 8 days :)

Still, I agree that it looks very good, and I'm sure will be great fun to play. I will be getting it, but not at the launch day. NightFire and Rygar take priority for me :)

9.8 is a good sign....even if it is IGN.

I dig the controls. I finally got to play the demo, and the controls clicked with me right away. This may be because I don't play a lot of first-person games because many give me motion sickness. Prime doesn't, though, maybe because it's slower than, say, Unreal.

You can lock-on with the left trigger and shoot, or just blast away while moving with the left analog stick. Between the two, I didn't have any problems...*shrug*....

I'm a little wary of platforming in first-person as well, but I trust the developers to not put unreasonable first-person jumps in Prime. However, I hope there's plenty of third-person morph-ball obstacle-coursing.

God damn! I just spent like 15 min to go find that old thread and post that it got a 9.8 in it. Then I reload the main page to see this thread started! Oh well...

At first I though I'd be playing Fusion first (getting them both on the 19th) but the more I think about it the more I start to consider Prime... AH!

I'm reading the review...it says some very interesting things. They cite the high difficulty, the outstanding pacing, the constant achievement and reward system, the amazing story, and the inspired enemy design. The review states that Prime undergoes the same brilliant transition from 2D to FP that Ocarina of Time did when switching from 2D to 3D. They also say it's got 25+ hours of gameplay, and say Prime is a rare case of art direction and programming prowess coming together perfectly to create a visual masterpiece in a fully believable alien world. To quote: "an accomplishment that will be recognized for years."

Yowza. How's that for hype?

How did you manage to read it? Are you an IGN insider?

Well considering the guy that reviewed the game is admittedly a huge Metroid fanboy, the score should be taken with at least a pinch of salt. I mean Prime doesn't even have multi-player at all and he gave replay a 10.

Since when does a game need a multi-player mode to have replay value? Anyway, if the free IGN boards can be trusted, MP got a 9 in graphics, a 9 in replay value, and 10 in gameplay, presentation, and music. Seems fair to me, 30 hours (if it's true) is quite long for a non-RPG, and there's the incentive to play the game again to find all the items.
