Good comment and it's one I disagree with. I don't think you or anyone else has any say in what he's making. Any good cartoonist ever has put personal feelings and emotions and thoughts into thier comics. Well schooled am I in the funnies, especially Calvin & Hobbes naturally, and I can tell you that some of Wattersons most brilliant moments were in reflection and commentary. However, Watterson was usually less heavy handed in that than Kaneda was. There were some instances where he was though - like when his cat Spirte died (Hobbes went missing, and the one where C & H said they'd meet in dreams - which if you haven't read that one isn't as sappy as that sounds, it's very much in C & H context) or in the strip where C & H find a dead raccoon. The important thing for a cartoonist is to not be overly preachy and not too vauge either. Therein is a real challange for cartoonists. Already I can tell you that (as far as writing goes) Kaneda is far and away better than PA (which I like, but for other reasons).
