Nope. Managed to go through on a couple invites tonight, fortunately. It seems basically up to chance whether or not you'll actually catch someone at the right moment -- unless you want to sit on the host screen for hours.
It wouldn't be so bad if the invite didn't just disappear after a failed attempt.
The whole XBL portion of MA has some serious problems. It's amazing a group like Camelot/THQ can bust out an online version of a game that requires a ton of scratch work in about 8 weeks, and make THE best Live interface (and the least buggy) while their at it, and Day1 with MS's support makes an interface worse than Whacked!I dread the idea of patching, but since this would be for the Live component only, I think it's allowable. I saw quite a few of you on last night, but, with the wonderful MA Live interface, I could never join anyone. :( I got an invite that magically disappeared when I went to accept it. Oh well.
Btw, folks, I'd seriously appreciate some feedback on my review of Xbox Live ( http://www.the-nextlevel.com/board/s...747#post214747 ). If anyone here likes my review style, I'll start working up a review for Mech Assault soon. The review will also wind up going on my site once my wife gets done with the design (a couple of weeks, hopefully). If you think it sucks, that's fine, just tell me why it sucks. I'm used to critiques. :)
Mech, the whole "Bad Connection" notice when you try to join a game may be just that, the person you tried to join has a slow connection. If you try to host a game with more people than your connection can handle, you will loose people when the game is started. Cable modems can slow way the hell down in highly populated areas. I live in a small town, but I still try to keep my games down to 4 players total, because I seem to get fewer loose fewer people that way.
I sen't you invites last night, but since my games were so small, they filled up pretty quickly. Maybe we can organize something one night. At a certain time I could send out invites to 3 TNLers to join a totally private game & I could just wait untill you guys showed up. It would probably mean dropping out of whatever game you were playing at the time, but once we got together it gets a lot easier to stay together.

JM, out of curiousity, what is your upload speed on your broadband connection? That seems to be one of the determining factors for connections issues with XBL (oh, the joys of P2P). It's tempting to bring my Xbox into work one day (we have 2 full T1s. Dslreports.com says I have a 1.178MB upload connection there. ^_^) just to see if it runs any better. I currently get 1MB down, 128K up from my provider at home. I'd be willing to drop to 756 or 512k down to move to 256k upload.
I'm hoping to catch some of you on tonight, after 9pm EST. I need to "test" MA's Live gameplay for my review. :)
They limit my upload speed on my cable modem service :(
I get about 470k upload, according to dslreports.
Mode7, you suck. Who's you're provider? Meanwhile, those of us in Redneck Ragoon get 1/4 of your upload. :( Guess I won't host any games anytime soon...
I don't know what mine is offhand.
You want to know what is really weird? When Mode7 hosted a game, I got the whole "BAD CONNECTION may affect network play" or whatever message.
Who knows, all of this may be from MS's side of things.

Wolffen: Rogers cable
The error messages seem somewhat wonky in general, and rarely offer a clear indication as to what in the hell just happened. Hopefully things will smooth out a bit more once the network adjusts to the influx of new gamers.
Edit: Make that shaw. God knows why I wrote rogers.
