Anyone have/played this?

Not sure if it ever got a cartridge released. One of many games released only over Sega's japanese game downloading service (and the compilation on Sega CD). Anyway, I think there's a few other fans on this board. Anyone hunt this one down?

Also, if anyone who speaks japanese can help with that title, I'd appreciate it. That Kanji eludes me.

Is it really a third game? I thought the arcade/SG-1000 one and the SMS one were pretty much the same game.

What compilation is this on? I have looking to get something for my Mega CD.

No, the SG-1000 and SMS ones are different. I mean they all play pretty much the same, but different levels and grqaphics and themes (The SMS on is like... penguins in space for some reason). And this one is different again, in that same sense. So yeah, it's a full sequel.

And I don't think there was an arcade game, I think people were just led to beleive that by the inclusion of the SG-1000 version on Sega Ages Memorial Volume 2.

Ah, that would explain why I have never been able to find info on an arcade version. I assumed that it was an arcade version on the Memorial disc.

Penguin Land is the business. I have said this already in 2-3 threads recently, but PL needs to come to GBA. It would work really well on a handheld console.

Actually, I didn't know that either.

Reason being that I never bothered with the B/W GB.. I didn't like that system. The first GB I bought is GBA.


We still need a new colourful version for GBA. ;)

I just tried the GB rom. It's too bad Pony Canyon based it on the SG-1000 game instead of the SMS one.

I also pulled SMS Penguin Land out of my closet to play. It was weird playing levels I designed in the '80's. I made them too hard!

YEah, I loved that level editor! Unfortunately the Megadrive one doesn't have that, and uses password saves, since the modem thing had no SRAM.

It would be really fun if there was a way to trade custom levels. I'd like to give NeoZeed's old levels a try. ;)

I guess with emu/rom you could always trade levels. But that's not the quite same... still might be fun though.

(Ahem, PL-on-GBA + link cable = trade levels... also, the GBA game could have linked up multiplayer races! funness!)


I actually seem to have lost my Penguin Land SMS cart. I kept all my old games and old consoles in good condition and saved everything really well - but PL is missing in action. I think what happened was someone borrowed it from me back in the day and never gave it back. That happened twice to me with SMS games when I was little!! :(:(:(

I need to replace that one of these days. I left my SMS at my parents house in NJ though because I didn't have room to pack it when I moved. I did make a Dreamcast disc of my SMS games though. :)

Anyway, I still want to try PL3. How hard is that Sega Ages compilation to come by?
