I for one did not cry during that scene in FF7, nor did I feel any real emotional feelings towards it. As an avid reader of classical and modern fiction I found that scene to be a bit clichéd, IMHO they overreached way too far in an attempt at creating a intelligent story and ended up using clichés in an attempt at fostering emotions in the game player. There are _many_ gameplayers besides myself that hold this opinion, and many who don't. It all comes down to what is fun and good gaming for you as an individual. Please don't voice opinions like "it is the greatest rpg ever" or propose that it is in that class if you haven't even played any of the older classic rpg's or given credit and respect to them for the innovations they made and types of gameplay they introduced. Things that FF7 was based on...
I give FF7 credit for the things it did and tried to do, I just didn't find it nearly as fun to play or near FF6 or FF4 in terms of quality or gameplay. And it isn't just an age thing or nostalgia, I also found my FF9 and FFX experiences to be much better than FF7. IMHO of course. :p
I personally find FFVII great, but not the best. However, I really don't believe the story is clichéd after going through the game a few times. There are so many twists that you really don't get the first time 'round. Like the whole Cloud is Zack thing. At first you get the jist of it, but then going through it again, you notice in the beginning the little quirks of that still undeveloped plot twist.
My personal favorite FF is FFVIII, so fuck you all. :D
I just ordered FFVII online, and I had forgotten most of the storyline, but Rich has now spoiled something for me already! I can't even remember a Zack from the story but I sure will now
But seriously that sucks. Oh well too late now. I still can't wait to replay it though
hah, way to post the spoilers. And FF8 as your favorite FF? haha.
I'm sorry man, I figured everyone played it.. :P
It would all come back to you once you started playing it though, and I really didn't give away story line, just basic stuff if you've played it at all.
Yeah I know it's no big deal, I hadn't played it in like 5 years but I still remember pretty much everything about the story as it is anyways. And as I said, I just want to play it again :)
Well, I didn't consider FFVII spoilers worthy of being marked. Everyone has either played it, or has no desire to play it. And yup, FFVIII is great!Quote:

I am looking forward to trying FFVIII as well. It's the last of the Playstation FFs I need to pick up now that 7 and 9 (also never played that one) are on the way. I hear alot of bad things about it but I am going to go in with an open mind, no bad expectations.
Sorry man but I can't agree, I will admit that playing a game through once is the only time you get that "Magical Feeling", the second time that "Magic" seems lost. I no longer feel that with my 16-bit collection but occasionally a new game or two shine through. Golden Sun for instance and I felt that way with Shadow Hearts. Maybe your not playing the right games.
Hers a small tip to keep that "magic" alive, Pick up something new, stay away from sequels alltogether. Trust me on this one, unless they have made major changes to the gameplay its the same feeling as playing its pedecessor a second time through.
