The Sentinel
An old game for the Commodore 64, later saw a PC port. Many years later, a PC remake, named Sentinel Returns, was released. I think this remake was also ported to the PSX.
I love this game. At least, I love Sentinel Returns, as I've barely played the old versions. The game is a bitch to explain, but I'll try.

The game is played from a first-person view. In The Sentinel, elevation = power. You can destroy and absorb energy from any object that is at the same elevation as you or lower simply by clicking on it. Looming over the map, there's The Sentinel, which slowly rotates around and absorbs whatever it sees. Obviously, you don't want to be absorbed, so you need to reach the highest elevation possible, and take down the Sentinel. This is where it gets kinda strange. You see, you can't walk about. You move by creating "robots", then transporting into them. These robots are completely stationary, and can be placed anywhere, assuming you are high enough. You can also create rocks with your energy, which can be used as "steps" that you can place robots on top of.
Sentinel Returns has over 650 levels (!), as well as a random map generator and excellent multiplayer.
Very good game.

Talk about coincidences. I downloaded the PC version of the original game about 20 minutes ago.
I can't figure out how to play it but this game has always intrigued me.

Whoa. Coincidence indeed.
Anyway, I'm not positive about the control in the original, but...
I think that space toggles the cursor on and off (you can also move the mouse), T makes a tree, R makes a robot, B makes a boulder, and I *think* that U is to transport into another robot. But, for some reason, I can't figure out how to absorb energy.

That sounds like a wicked cool game. I'll have to hunt it down.
