Which game company is least deserving of its success?

I'll give them mucho credit for creating and making the FPS market what it is today, but they could do something that is'nt an FPS, or has anything to do with it. Would many gamers be proclaiming Nintendo, as the best game makers on the planet, if all they did was make Mario games?

Id's an old dog that doesn't need to learn new tricks. It wouldn't hurt them to do so, but they probably won't.

Id has made several non-FPS games but they were all pre-Doom.

But why do they need to diversify? They aren't a company like Sega with several development teams. They specialize in FPS's. You wouldn't expect Michael Jackson to start releasing heavy metal albums, right?

MJ doing metal would probably be more entertaining than anything Id could ever do.

Neo's right. They're a really small company. If they don't want to diversify, they dont have to, because what they're doing now is already incredible.

They build the best game technology on the planet. They revolutionized gaming probably about five times now (Doom's pseudo-3D and mapping bilities, Quake's full-3D, TCP/IP play and massive customizability), and they truly are the world's leaders on graphic technology. Doom III is so far ahead of the rest of the world graphically it doesn't even need to be mentioned, its practically understood. Other developers follow where they lead. Videocard companies hinge on Carmack's every word. An entire industry has built up on top of Quake. Raven builds amazing games with id technology, and they do it over and over again. I couldnt fathom how many people got into the game industry because of homebrewed Quake/Quake-engine stuff. In fact, one of the main developers of your beloved Metroid Prime, David Zoid Kirsch, got his start doing QuakeCTF.

To say that id Software of all companies doesn't deserve their success shows pure ignorance on the subject. They deserve it every bit as much as Nintendo does.

Id definitely deserves their success. They at least have made some great games, even if they aren't diversifying. They don't need to.

THQ is a company that would have gotten my vote a few years ago, before they started publishing some solid wrestling games. Before that, they were always "the company that published the Home Alone 2 SNES game" to me.

SNK does need to bring out something besides Metal Slug and KOF.

I want to see Magician Lord 2 from them. If ML2 is indeed completed, it would be a shame for SNK to be sitting on it. This would indeed be a change from the recent "usual".

SNK won't try anything new until they either get a huge influx of cash, or the existing product's fanbase dries up.
