If Marz is like VOOT then I'd be happy. I would find team-based VO perplexing. As such - I haven't played VO:4

Nope... Marz is pretty much the same thing as Force, only with a very strange control setup, and gameplay that is meant to be more single-player than versus. Unfortunate.
I guess I wouldn't perfer that... being that I rather like the DC configuration.
ID is into making FPS engines more than they are making good games. they know that they will be supported by the mod community, so their concern is simply putting out the best graphocs engine that they can. And they do a wonderful job. The quake 3 engine is still being used and is still being pushed further by other companies. I agree with you though, i wish that they would try something else, but i guess that they are sticking with what they know, and thats FPSQuote:

I have to agree with id being on the crappy side of things. It doesn't bother me so much that they continue to put out FPS, as it does that I know they could make some really great stuff if they gave another type of game a chance.
Perhaps on the console side of things things are re-hashed but on the PC end of the spectrum, they are doing a wonderful job. They have released Clive Barker's Undying which is actually the most frightening game ever. Forget RE , Silent Hill and Fatal Frame. This is true horror. If you have a half decent PC rig, you can enjoy it. EA released American McGee's Alice which is awesome. The Medal of Honor series, which speaks for itself, and last but not leastQuote:

EA.
EA owes most of its success to the fact that it is a HUGE company and has the resources to buy up any franchise/license it wants (Bond, LOTR, etc) and has the widest distribution channels. They also probably get the sweetest deals with the hardware makers and the distributors, simply because of their size. Oh yeah, it also has a monopoly on the Madden name.
That's why EA can continue to crank out rehashed, uninspired games, year after year, and still be the most profitable company. Doesn't that make you sick?
Battlefield 1942. If BF1942 was released on consoles, You people would respect EA much more. On the console side, I agree with you guys , but on the PC end, they are doing a fine job. PC gaming needs to be recognized more fully by console users and vice-versa. Plenty of wonderful experiences to go around!!

EA sucks now, but they built themselves up on solid games during the 16 bit era. Also, I may not like their games, but many too, so pleasing an audience is deserving of success.
My pick goes to Titus, because, unlike EA, nobody likes their games at all. They bring no pleasure to anyone, and yet them make tons of money and buy out other game companies. Superman 64 sold like 800,000 copies despite being widely regarded as one of the worst games ever made. I hate thes bastards.
At least Titus published Evil Zone domestically which is a misunderstood yet brilliant game.
And Incredible Crisis. But those games made no money at all. Their success comes purely from their works of evil.Quote:

More specifacally they were all before Tom Hall left. That's basically why they stopped doing the other kinds of games.Quote:

I'll say what I've been saying for years: SEGA is my second favorite developer.Quote:

Replace the names and you've just described every single genre as viewed from the casual side. (Although, "Beyond Castle Wolfenstein?" Whazzit?)Quote:
It's not ignorance, it's more like, wow another FPS. Looking at it, as a casual FPS player, I'm wondering what all the hype is about. I've played Doom, Ultimate Doom, Beyond Castle Wolfenstien, Quake III Arena and Unreal Tournament. They all play fairly alike and from my perspective have'nt really advanced much in gameplay, with the only exception being the graphic's.
And this is different from most other FPS' how?Quote:
Look at a title like Halo, where the single player experience is just as important as a multiplayer one. While I have'nt really played Halo more than a few minutes here and there at Demo kiosks, it has a huge world to exlore and from all the talk about the game, it sounds like there is a solid storyline behind all the strafing and shooting.
DiffusionX and Tracer Bullet: I love you guys.
