How satisfied are you with your PS2/GC/XBox?

Playstation 2 - 10/10
It was what I played until the other 2 big systems came out. Countless hours of GT3, Jak & Daxter, Half Life, Devil May Cry, SSX Tricky, Spy Hunter, Baldur's Gate, Gauntlet, Need for Speed 2, Burnout 2 and Ratchet & Clank have made this system more than worth the $300 I paid 2 years ago. I have yet to play a DVD on it.

PC - 10/10
... but dropping right now. This summer was heaven for the PC as we saw Freedom Force, Dungeon Siege, Medal of Honor Allied Assault, Age of Wonders 2, Icewind Dale 2, Warcraft 3 and Neverwinter Nights. A fantastic summer of PC gaming. But the winter months hold little excitement right now. So it sees less and less playing time.

Gamecube - 9/10
... and coming up fast. Now that it's out and the games are appearing like Metroid Prime, Eternal Darkness, Mario Sunshine, Phantasy Star and Resident Evil, I begin to spend many hours on the little black box.

X-Box - 8/10
... and coming up fast!! All multi-platform games I purchase for this system - as the graphics are usually better. Mech Assault, Metal Gear Solid 2 and Splinter Cell have begun to warm this box up. This XMas I hope to get Unreal, NHL 2K3 and Ghost Recon. Panzer Dragoon is on it's way as well. Seems the big black box will see some play time as well...

Gameboy Advance - 8/10
Sat idle for a long time. Cleaned off the dust and started spending time with Crash, Metroid Fucion, Dragon Warrior 1 and the Legend of Zelda: Link from the Past. I now find it gets an hour of play a night (in bed before sleep) with my Flood light and digital headphones...

Each console sees playtime each week. Every night I seem to rotate to a different console for a different game. The Gameboy is seeing the most consistent time - as I play alittle every night. God it's great to be a video gamer right now....

PS2- 6.9/10 I really haven't played it much lately. But I do crave a quick round of Rez or Gran Turismo 3 every few months. Also, DVD viewing capabilities right out of the box is much appreciated.

Xbox- 7.4/10 I never take PGR out of my Xbox. So, basically, it's my PGRbox. Everything else I have for the system is kinda "bleh". But it's all very beautiful "bleh".

GC- Don't own it, so I won't rate it. I'd imagine myself enjoying it quite a bit, though. I just don't have the cash at the moment.

Many of you are giving very high - surprisingly high - scores. Are you making them relative only to this generation or to all consoles ever.. because if you guys are ranking the current crop so high I wonder where some older consoles would fit.

Am I the only one what thought MAXIMO was Incredibly disappointing? The gameply was fairly lame, and as a Ghosts N' Goblins tribute it was pretty terrible. Including the music. Maybe I expected too much GnG and got too much MAXIMO. Anyway I prefer just about any other platformer over it.

How happy am I with my systems?

PS2 - Very happy. Games are easy to consume one after the other, but they come quickly enough.

GC - Very happy. Games have assloads of replay value; this system gets the most consistent play.

Xbox - Pretty happy. Makes a great coffee table. Steel Battallion makes up for most of the software shortcomings, IMO.

GBA - Super duper happy. I look forward to my lunch breaks everyday for some sweet, sweet gaming.

I don't see how someone can say that the Xbox has better titles than the GC. Whatever. Anything good comes along, I'll snap it up.

Is there anyone here that has yet to hear that I beat it on one life? Cause I did.

GBA exists because they can't attatch a screen to an SNES like the PSone.

And it fits in your pocket a lot better. It's still great though.

I'm surprised the GC is getting such high scores...I kind of like them all equally, but differently... especially happy I have a good enough comp now to avoid ports either way, especially unhappy that I don't have the cash to buy all the games I want. Anyone have an old copy of Gradius for PS2 they want to foist off for cheap?

I'm comparing the three. If I were to compare them with other systems, they'd score lower, for sure.

PlayStation 2

Games 7/10 and dropping ... fast. PS2 has many powerhouse/great titles - now. But the future prognosis when compared to Xbox or GameCube is poor. Zelda, Star Fox, F-Zero, Pikmin 2, Harvest Moon: Wonderful Life and GBA-connectivity will carry the Cube while Panzer, Halo 2, Fable and other titles will push Xbox.

Hardware 6/10. I hate the controller, the DVD player stinks when compared to my $130 Toshiba and the drive is slow. However, despite this, the system can produce some nice graphics. The detail of FFX, the worlds of Jak and Daxter, the cinematics of MGS2 and the vastness of GTA3 prove that.

Controller 3/10. This is my personal beef, please don't flame me on it. I've never liked the PS2 controller due to it's use of shapes instead of letters and I've never liked it's shoulder buttons. It's always been tough for me to use.

Overall 6/10 (slightly below average). The system is showing it's age and unlike N64 which in it's later days produced some of it's best software, PS2 seems to be doing the opposite. I can't see anything coming up in the next few years that I'm going to go nuts for (maybe FFXII, the team behind it sounds cool).


Xbox

Games 5/10. Halo, JSRF and NFL2K3 are my Xbox "lineup". I'm going to get GV now that it's $20 but otherwise, there haven't been any major-cool titles. TJ&E3, Shrek, Kabuki-whatever, Oddworld, Azurik, New Legends and others have done nothing to sell me on Xbox and in fact, have done nothing but tarnish the system for me. However, Panzer is coming, along with a much needed prestige boost.

Hardware 8/10. One word - Nice. The XBox is a nice, nice piece of hardware and would get a 9 if it weren't for the controller. Broadband connection, fast processor, awesome graphics processor. It's all good. The system has the ability to do amazing things with games but as the previous rating put it, it obviously isn't happening. The hard drive is nice, too. No memory cards.

Controller 7/10. If only the S controller came out, I would easily give the controller a 9. The S controller is amazing; it fits well, feels good and works great in Halo. However, MS decided to unlease the blemish on gaming that was the standard controller; a total mess if ever there was one. Too big (I have huge hands), uncomfortable and almost impossible to use correctly.

Overall 7/10 (average). The score is heightened a tad because some truly cool titles will be coming out in the future as well as the great hardware on the system. Xbox has the ability to be an amazing system, all we need are the games.


GameCube

Games 9/10. For someone like myself, who has little/no time to play games, I can't waste my time playing games that aren't great, which is why I like the Cube so much. Luigi's Mansion, Pikmin, WR:BS, SSB:M, REmake, SMS, Metroid, RE:0, Animal Crossing, Mario Party 4, Sega Soccer Slam (first released on the system), etc. These games are great and have given me the entertainment I want when I want it. However, I would like to see more titles (even if I can't play them, I'd like to see them) and that knocks one point off of what could be a perfect score.

Hardware 8/10. While the same score as Xbox, this is due to the controller. The GameCube is also a very nice piece of hardware. Fast drive, cool medium, great size, awesome controller, awesome graphics processor (reminds me of DC) and cool PowerPC chipset. However, the system is weaker than Xbox and doesn't have automatic internet connectivity or hard drive. But Retro (and Rare) have proven that the system can produce very, very remarkable graphics.

Controller 10/10. I know that I'll get flak for this, but I'm perfectly accustomed to the GC controller. I love it. It's so comfortable for me and when you add WaveBird into the mix, it gets even better. I won a WaveBird at E3, brought it home and haven't used a standard GC controller since. The positioning of the buttons, the cool naming convention for the second stick (while minor, I like it) and the shoulder buttons are great. The D-pad could have been nicer but the controller is too well designed for me to throw a fit over it.

Overall 9/10 (above average). Great system, I love it. My favorite of the current gen, however, it could use more games. But Zelda and company are coming soon to take care of that, as well as the Capcom 5. GameCube has a very, very bright future for anyone who purchases the system.
