I just bought another S-Video switchbox at Gamestop and am planning to connect my SNES, N64, and Saturn to it. My question is: are any of the older systems S-Video compatible? I'm referring stictly to cables; no mods involved.
Also, where besides ebay can I find a Saturn S-Video cable? www.sega-parts.com doesn't have them (from what I could see).
Never shop there before so I don't if the service is good or not.

SNES and N64 are s-video compatable -- in fact, they can use the same cable.
I'm just going to buy 2 GC S-Video cables to use with the N64 and SNES, since they're all compatible. It's the Genny and Duo that I'm curious about. I know the AES needs a mod, and I'm not sure about the NES.

I'll second that, JMET. I had to place mine on a corner of my entertainment system due to the AV cable's crappy location.
i dont know about the duo but th eonly cables that seem to be in existence for the Genny with out a mod are from some one on here whose friend has them and says theyll show pictures of them
but other than that ive never seen or heard of S-Video cables for the genny and look at the genny 1's pin outs it doesnt produce a signal for S-video so event that cable has to go into a box that converst composite up into s-video and IMHO wouldnt look any better
i know some one else on the board does Genny mods to have them put out S-vide on day i plan on having mine modded
i beleive the genny 1's may have a similar output chip as the AES but im not sure (why an S-video mod is possible)
Yeah, Johnpv is right, the AES and Genesis 1 have the exact same AV out and can use the same cables. But I KNOW there is no Svideo cable for the genny 1, because if there was one it would be used on the Neo instead of people shelling out 100 bucks to pay for a mod.
I have heard rumors of an S-video connection for the Genny 2, but much like Elvis, some people have seen them, I have not.
I don't really see a point in using S-Video for older systems, the NES looks fine with RCA cables. Probably better, since it blurs and mixes the extremely low-res images.
Of course, if you REALLY want some quality, you could just go RGB with the old systems, or use an XRGB converter to upscan them. I don't have that kind of cash personally.
s-video for the Genny does exist. Email me for PICS. It works, and it works BRILLIANTLY. The only one I've ever seen is the one my friend owns, which he won off ebay for fifty bucks. I should have bid against him...oh well. Again, he made some actual scans of it which I have somewhere.
If you can track down a JVC Wondermega, you'll be able to use S-Video without a mod. That's the only Megadrive/Gen system which "officially" supports S-Video. The only "mod-free" way to produce S-Vid from the Genesis would be to make an RGB/S-Video converter. This is possible (I've done it), but it's not really worth the effort.
But, it's quite possible to modify the Genesis to produce S-Video. It works very well, in fact!

I have several of these systems for sale. I've been planning on posting an FS message in the trading station for a while now, but haven't gotten around to it yet. If anybody's interested, feel free to inquire (PM or E-mail).
The Duo, sadly, is not an easy machine to get S-Video from. The video encoder chip doesn't have any outlet for Luma and Chroma, so the only method is the roundabout way of RGB conversion. The only S-Video capable TG16 system I've ever seen of is sitting in storage back home in Toronto, and I don't plan on making another one!

PS - DHG, does your friend have a modded Genny? If so, it might be one of mine - I sold a few of them last spring before I moved...
