Okay, here we go. These are my picks.
Street Fighter series vs. King of Fighters series - Street Fighter
As much as I like KOF, I cannot deny the greatness that is Capcom. Besides, Ryu is cooler than Kyo. :p
Virtua Fighter series vs. Soul Calibur series - Virtua Fighter
Tough one to choose, considering that all their games are great, but I think Virtua Fighter 4 nudges Soul Calibur in the tie-breaker because of Kumite.
Dead or Alive series vs. Tekken series - Tekken
You would think that boobies would win over Heihachi, but I had more fun playing the Tekken games (up until Tag Tournament) than DOA.
Final Fantasy series vs. Zelda series - Zelda
Bring your Chocobos, Summons, and Moogles. Link will smithe them all down.
Quake series vs. Unreal series - Unreal
Another hard one to choose, but alternate firing weapons and cooler environments gets the edge.
Halo vs. GoldenEye - Halo
Goldeneye may have pioneered the awesome console FPS, but Halo nearly perfected it. 2-player co-op rules too.
2D Castlevanias vs. 2D Metroids - 2D Metroids
You can't really compare them until Symphony of the Night, since the older Castlevanias were more linear action games. Even so, you can't out-Metroid Metroid (provided you don't count Fusion). Damn, that statement was flawed the moment I typed it. Metroid still wins, pppttthhhpth.
Sim racers vs. arcade racers - Arcade Racers
For all you Math majors, R4 > Gran Turismo.
Ridge Racer series vs. Daytona series - Ridge Racer
Admittedly, I never played any Daytona game, but I wished I did. I have to pick RR by default.
Gran Turismo series vs. Sega GT series - Gran Turismo
Sega GT is another series I never played (yeah, yeah, throw your Sega bricks later), so I have to pick the other GT by default. I'm pretty sure if I played Sega GT, I would pick that over Sony GT.
Mario series vs. Sonic series - Mario series
Sonic 3 & Knuckles and Sonic CD may be great games, but do you really want to pit Super Mario Bros. 3, Yoshi's Island, Super Mario Kart, and Mario RPG against Sonic R, Sonic Spinball, Sonic 3D Blast, and Sonic Adventure 2 Battle?
Mario vs. Sonic - Mario
Sonic is cooler than Mario, there's no denying that, but when it comes to versatility, Mario is king. The plumber can spin jump, don animal suits, tame dinosaurs, turn metallic, play tennis and golf like a pro, run a mildy successful cookie factory, and even has a medical degree from the Brooklyn School of Pharmaceuticals. All Sonic has is a powerful jump attack, a spin dash (w/homing abilities), and the ability turn into Super Sonic. His dull performance in Sonic Advance knocked him down a few pegs.
Samus vs. Master Chief - Samus
I'll give the Chief his props, but Samus can leave exploding planets with style (and her weapons are cooler).
Chocobos vs. Moogles - Moogles
Chocobos can only peck at a Moogle so many times before the Moogle unleashes a nasty (insert any Final Fantasy Moogle name) attack.
Phantasy Star series vs. Suikoden series - Phantasy Star
Haven't played either, but I'm more interested in picking up the GBA PS collection than Suikoden III.
Resident Evil series vs. Silent Hill series - Resident Evil
RE1 on GC looked good. And that's about it. I really don't care.
Deus Ex vs. System Shock 2 - Deus Ex
I can't tell between the two because my PC isn't powerful enough to play either game. Yay! Hmm, eenie, meenie, mynnie, mo . . .
Animal Crossing vs. The Sims - Animal Crossing
Classic NES games like Punch-Out and The Legend of Zelda are in this game. How can you compete with that?
Sub Zero vs. Scorpion - Scorpion
Ripping out your head and spine may be cool, but Scorpion's demand of "Get Over Here!" always gets me in my heart. *rimshot*
Warcraft series vs. Command & Conquer series - C&C
It won the coin toss. Hey, I'm not a PC guy, okay?
Rez vs. Panzer Dragoon - Panzer Dragoon
It's all about the Orta. It's all about the Orta.
Real-time strategy games vs. turn-based strategy games - Turn-based strategy games
You can blame Advance Wars for my decision.
Skies of Arcadia vs. Lunar Silver Star - Skies of Arcadia
I played a SoA demo for the DC, and I'm looking forward to getting Legends for the Cube. I never took the opportunity to get the Lunar games when they were released for the PSX. So by my logic, Skies wins.
Final Fantasy 3/6 vs. Final Fantasy 7 - Final Fantasy 3/6
I haven't played either, but I'll pick 3/6 because EVERYONE keeps talking about how much the opera scene rules.
Old Shinobi vs. New Shinobi - Old Shinobi
Because throwing ninjas stars at waves and waves of ninjas is better when you have an unlimited supply.
Tactics Ogre vs. Final Fantasy Tactics - Tactics Ogre
Haven't played either, so I had to refer to my coin again.
Sega Sports' series vs. EA Sports' series - Sega Sports
They're good kids. That's all I have to say.
Vert shooters vs. horizontal shooters - Vert
You can blame Ikaruga for my decision.
Console RPGs vs. PC RPGs - Console RPGs
Never played PC ones, so Console wins by default. I'm sure the PC ones are good, but so was Mario RPG.
Grand Theft Auto 3 vs. Grand Theft Auto Vice City - Vice City
Better music, better city, better side-missions, and better glitches.
Splinter Cell vs. Metal Gear Solid 2 - MGS2
I haven't played Splinter Cell, so I'm only going with what I know.
Time Crisis vs. Virtua Cop - Time Crisis
It's all about the pedal action, baby!
Ryo vs. Sailor - Ryo
I have no idea what this match-up is about, but if you're referring to Sakazaki from AoF, then Kyokugen (sp?) beats any Sailor fighting style!
