I still don't think you can go the the extreem of saying "went to shit" because some of those cars had very nice runs before becoming unprofitable. If everytime a car is discontinued it goes to shit then every car has or will end up this way, even you precious Civics and Rangers.
Note: The RX-7 was produced for atleats a decade.
One final time. Perhaps, you do not understand that I am not making a judgement on the quality of those cars, but the sales of those cars.

Sadly, you seem to think that I like a civic or a ranger, I do not.
Those are amoung the best selling cars in this country, hence they continue to be sold and profits made.
The RX-7 was produced for a long time, sure, but the expensive, turbo-ed $40k+ RX-7 generation that came out in '93/'94 only lasted for 3 years, and had absolutely terrible sales.
The cars you've mentioned sold well in earlier generations - however, the cars became more expensive over time, and their mid-90s incarnations tended to cost near or over $40k, which was just too expensive. Their sales then went to shit.
