the wheel of time?
Nope, the wheel of fortune.
I so almost gave up on that series. Book 9 was pretty good, though, so, I guess I'll check out book 10. I've spent so much time reading all the other books, that I pretty much just have to read any new ones now on principle...
Book 8 nearly murdered the series.Quote:

But yeah, it's like a drug. Ashame too, because 1 - 6 was soo completely awesome.

Yep, I noticed that the 10th book comes out tomorrow. I'm sure I'll grab it immediately.
I was (foolishly) under the impression that the series was only going to be 10 volumes, and wondered how the illustrious Mr. Jordan was going to wrap up the 10 billion looses threads in just one more slow-ass volume.
Surprise! He won't!! Instead, he'll wrap up it over God knows how many more slow-ass volumes! (Anyone know when he's going to bring an end to the torture?)
I wasn't thrilled to learn that the multiple plot lines will go through more meandering in the 10th book, but at least we'll get to read (hopefully) a lot more about Mat Cauthon's escapades. He's the only character I even give a damn about at this point, other than Lan, and a few side characters. It's sad that even a cool character like wolfbrother Perrin (who's side quest was simply awesome in book 4 or 5) is stuck in such a boring, slow-paced plotline.
Oh well, another 650-pager should keep me occupied for a while, if nothing else.
Heh, I know how you feel. I didn't like that much initially, but now, Mat's one of the few characters that interest me. I find most of the women (except maybe Min) intolerable, and even Rand is wearing thin on me.
A similar series, that has a similar pitfall, is the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind (the two series are so similar in some ways that I often get them confused waiting for the next respective volume to come out)...anyway, the pitfall is the eventually over-poweredness of the main characters...it seems to happen in these really long series...but after a while, heroes are all so strong, magically powerful, smart, or whatever, that their exploits are no longer interesting. It's like a rpg where your characters have gone way ahead of the enemies and bosses.
For instance, the Forsaken used to be something to fear, and were some of my favorite characters, but now that they're mostly just bitches compared to the heros, the story has lost of lot of its edge or suspense.
So is it out yet?
I agree 100% Apokryphos. I still hold out hope 1 - 6 was great, 7 was mediocre, 8 was just a bad book period but 9 was good. Perchance 10 will be better - I just cracked it open and am reading the prolouge. I might just stop for a bit and go ahead and re-read the series before chargeing ahead. I'll be a long long time till book 11 sees the presses methinks.
It's becomeing the neverending story for fucks sake... I may not live to see it end :P
I am not a fan of these books at all. All the characters feel the same to me, and I really hate everyone's personality, especially the majority of the women. I think I gave up after books seven. :/ Neverending story indeed.
