There was a Regional chain Wawa that called them Hoagies. I think they still exist, just not around me anymore...
Wawa is still going strong here in Jersey. They're strickly an east coast thing.

Sub is the most common name I've heard but the are a couple of shops locally that call them grinders.
Its a sub. We have hogies here too, but those are generally have like hot meat on them w/ a sauce, such a pizza or mushroom hoagie.
