Geez, the difference is like night and day. Halo 2's character model looks greatly improved over the ones in that pic from the original game.

I see what you're pointing out in that F-Zero pic, but you won't even notice it while you're racing. And, honestly, if you're that picky - to the point where you'll literally vomit at the sight of a few angles in an, otherwise, gorgeous looking game - I'd say that it's time to move on and find another hobby.

As for framerate vs detail, I'm with Saint of Killers.

480p is 704x480. 1080i, even though interlaced, is 1920x1080. I've never seen 720p in person, but it seems that it would be the highest quality.

480p looks like a really good transfer of a movie. Seeing Monsters, Inc. in 480p is just a little under seeing it at a DLP theater. 1080i is like looking out of a window. There's a pretty big difference between seeing a really good 'movie' and looking out your bedroom window...or at least to me there is. :)

There are only THREE games on Xbox that don't support 480p, Agent Upder Fire, Hitman 2 and The Thing. All the rest do.

Without going into a huge explanation of the difference between Interlaced and Progressive, they both look good. 720P looks Super high res and silky smooth, 1080i looks ULTRA detailed but not as silky. The only game to support 1080i has been Dragon's Lair 3D, and it looks great. Though only 4 games have supported 720p.

It'd be nice if they stuck to standard 480p or 1080i. There are so few sets on the market below $6k+ that support 720p that maybe 1% of the 1% of all TV owners with HDTV can view it. :p Even right at this moment, I can only think of 2 brands off the top of my head that will up convert 720p to 1080i natively.

I meant actually made in 480p, not just displayed through such. It's still nicer then the regular interlaced display, yes, but it also really brings out the stair-casing in some games.

I would prefer that the game stay at 30 fps...as long as its a rock solid 30. It gives the game a more cinematic feel. 60 could be good, but IMO it would change feel of the game significantly (compared to Halo).

I disagree. I think many games now are designed with 480P in mind. By the way, 480P isn't a better resolution than 480i, it is just different in how the image is displayed.

480P - 60 full frames per second.

480I - 60 half frames per second (roughly similar to 30fps)

Come to think of it, id software is doing the same thing for Doom III. The character/monster models (in-game) have a relitivly low poly count but are bump-mapped and god knows what else. I don't think I need to explain how that game looks...
