"So you want a crippling setback to the videogame sector in business? That's interesting."
What about the flipside? Millions of people would get off their lazy asses and actually play sports games in REAL LIFE.

The video game industry goes forward relentlessly, if EA were not here, Activision, or Sega, or THQ, or Infogrames (etc) would have become the EA of today. Though, probably doing so with better games.
I think Infogrames would be the biggest candidate. But I don't think they have the business guns or savy to pully off what EA has accomplished. The market is still open for lots of lost licenses and such and nobody capitalized on them or knows about them.Quote:

Yep. But I'm thinking strictly from a videogame fanatic perspective here.Quote:

My interest in the industry begins and ends with the production of games which I enjoy. EA hasn't done much of that for me.
Sure it would. The largest contributer of crap would be shut down. Yes, EA makes the occasional decent game.. but by in large they puclish shitworks. So, it would be a positive trend. Games would still be able to find other publishers. Plenty of others are there to pick up the slack. Do you think hockey fans would stop playing hockey games if "NHL 20XX" disappeared - for example? Of course not. They'd find something else... and probably be quite surprised to find something astonishingly better, no less. That's a positive.Quote:

Ok. You don't agree, that's fine. But what do you think would happen to trading rates if the largest contributer to the video game market shut down leaving less than half its revenue left over.
I understand WHY you want them to shut down from a logical standpoint: they faulter quality, right? But them shutting down wouldn't be a good thing, overall, to gamers.
I can't see how EA shutting down would be a bad thing at all. It would not stop any games I actually want to own from getting into my hands. :)
That's a great attitude to have Ammadeau! I endore this post and I think more people should look at things this way. Just enjoy what you enjoy... :)Quote:

Just pointing out how the large fish further the production of the smaller one. (developers especially, which tend to make those whacked out games we all enjoy)
Bullfrog was one of my favorite developers. They made Syndicate, Dungeon Keeper, Octane and several others. EA killed them.
Origin was another of my favorites, known mostly for their Ultima and Wing Commander series. EA killed them.
Now I was never into C&C or any other Westwood RTS, but I have a friend who loved every single RTS they put out, especially that Dune one. EA killed them.
Who is this helping exactly?
Good to see Dungeon Keeper getting it's due! I also loved Magic Carpet, another of Bullfrog's excellent series.
EA can suck my Jewish wang.
Without EA surviving the market, how would a developer even get stock or money from publishers who wouldn't have large budgets to publish such risque titles? (Like Rez, for example) So there would be no developers to crush.
It is, however, a double edged sword as EA does seem to buy up quite alot of them. Although their franchises and developers usually always migrate back into the company or into another, with their creativity you enjoy still being in the market. Influencing.
If you think EA's existence somehow contributes to games like Rez being created then I think you're off your coconut. :pQuote:

Now, I'll go back to hoping EA falls on that double-edged sword. :)
